Recently, Xiaomi Technology announced that it will upgrade the surging OS, a new operating system for many of its smartphones in 2024. The specific scope of the upgrade has been clarified, including the Xiaomi brand and the two sub-brands of Redmi and Poco, a total of hundreds of devices that can support upgrades. However, certain models or older devices are not included in this upgrade.
It is understood that from December 2023, as many as 117 Xiaomi's devices will usher in the update of surging OS in the next year. It is worth noting that Xiaomi has not yet released a detailed update schedule, but based on various speculations, it may be divided into three different update batches based on factors such as the phone's grade, hardware configuration, and launch date. This means that most of the updates will prioritize higher-end models, while lower-end and older devices may be upgraded a little later.
In terms of major brands, in addition to Xiaomi's flagship phones that are being sold in the global market, there are many budget-friendly or long-lasting products that are in the queue to be updated. Among them, Redmi brands, such as Redmi K40 series, K50 series, K60 series, Note10 5G series, Note11 series and Note12 series, etc., and the POCO F5 series, F4 series and F3 series in the POCO product line released in recent years are also included. See the figure above for the specific list. These brands and series of phones are eligible to receive the new features and improvements brought by The Paper.
However, some old models may be completely out of the surging OS, such as Redmi K30, K30 5G, K30 Racing Edition, K30i and other styles of old Xiaomi phones are not within the scope of this upgrade. Similarly, the Xiaomi Mi 10T, Xiaomi 10T Pro, POCO F2 Pro, Redmi Note9 series, Redmi 10X series, Redmi 9 and their earlier models are not available for The Surge OS updates.
Although the actual list of OS updates is still inconclusive, as for which phones will be the first to get the upgrade, we still have to wait for more exact news from Xiaomi's officials.
