After Jiajing, the flying fish pattern was not based on the dragon pattern, and the main body began to use the python pattern for design (as shown in Figure 2).
The rest of the shape is the same, showing the head of a dragon, the forelimbs are four claws, and the two wings are winged.
The moire pattern is used as the shading decoration, distributed in the blank part of the decoration, and the pattern combined with the seawater river pattern symbolizes the unity of heaven and earth, and at the same time implies the concept that the ruler is the co-lord of heaven and earth.
The flying fish pattern is the complementary color of the Ming Dynasty, and the clothes decorated with the flying fish pattern are called flying fish clothes.

Many cultural event logos and clothing printing patterns are influenced by Chinese auspicious patterns, and are innovatively redesigned by designers with concise and concise graphic language, which are seen and known by the public, so that these excellent traditional cultures can be inherited and carried forward.
(1) Application analysis in modern clothing design
In the pattern design of modern clothing design, auspicious patterns such as flying fish patterns with auspicious meanings also play a significant role.

In addition to replica clothing, there are also very few cases of the application of flying fish patterns in modern clothing design.
For example, the Daming Xiang Yunfu Sea Flying Fish Suit of the Wave Junwu and the Flying Fish Suit of the Military Design Bureau Sihe Ruyi Cloud Pattern Round Neck Sweatshirt and so on.
After a year-long preparation and drawing, they produced the "Daming Xiangyun Fuhai Flying Fish Suit" sweatshirt, the overall pattern is red, the theme pattern refers to the traditional flying fish pattern, and the overall shape of the flying fish has not changed much.
Later, the expert team launched a pure embroidered version of the Flying Fish Suit Heavy Industry Jacket with three million stitches, and this jacket was even praised as the reproduction of the essence of the Flying Fish Suit three hundred years ago by Ming history experts.
The traditional flying fish pattern has a strong sense of formal beauty and auspicious expression, and conveys the theme and artistic conception on the clothing through the "return".

3. The expression of the flying fish pattern in the Ming Dynasty
In the Ming Dynasty, the flying fish pattern was widely used, not only as a complement pattern in clothing, but also as a decorative pattern on porcelain items.
The flying fish pattern is one of the traditional symbolic patterns, indicating peace and auspiciousness, symbolizing health and joy, and the auspicious meaning of surplus wealth and blessings. The traditional flying fish pattern was used on gold and silverware, porcelain, jade and other utensils in the Ming Dynasty.
Among them, the clothing is the most, and there are as many as 32 ready-to-wear and clothing materials with flying fish patterns recorded in the "Tianshui Iceberg Record", including satin, silk, Luo, yarn, silk, velvet, cloth and other materials, which shows that the flying fish pattern was more applied to clothing in the Ming Dynasty.
(1) Symbols of clothing ranks
The pattern with the theme of flying fish is often used in combination with the seawater river pattern and the Sihe Ruyi moire pattern on clothing, and it has over-the-shoulder style, complement style and so on. (Figure 5)

Sihe is the dragon's head, four claws, and fish tail, which reduces the use of Sihe Ruyi moire, and there are only a few sporadic in the overall decoration, and simplifies the seawater river pattern.
In addition, it retains the over-the-shoulder style when the ancient pattern was used, and no longer adopts a symmetrical composition, and the pattern composition highlights the theme of the flying fish to maintain its graphic spirit.
Through modern design techniques, the flying fish pattern is simplified and innovated, and its visual impact is stronger than the traditional flying fish pattern.
Combining the traditional flying fish pattern with modern design, people can understand the history of the flying fish pattern at the same time, and spread the excellent traditional culture through design.
Through the study of the application of flying fish pattern in modern clothing design, it can be seen (Table 1) that although the auspicious meaning of flying fish pattern has been applied in modern design, there is still a lot of room for development and progress in the process and results of pattern reference.
The modern design of the traditional flying fish pattern is more of a reproduction of the pattern, loyal to the form of the pattern itself, and directly conveys the theme and sets off the artistic conception through the reproduction of the pattern.
In the only cases where it can be found, the use of color is mainly red and blue, with gold and green accents. In the fashion design works, there is little difference in the overall shape and use of the pattern.
In the modern design application of patterns, more attention is paid to inheritance. In clothing, the use of patterns is to combine the traditional flying fish pattern with modern styles in the form of embroidery or digital printing, and the pattern itself is carried forward.
However, it lacks the combination with the aesthetic concept of modern design, and lacks innovation.
There is still a lot of design space for the application of flying fish pattern in modern design, which is worthy of our innovative design.
Moreover, it is a new trend in the development of contemporary Chinese design to combine traditional patterns with modern design, give traditional patterns new forms of expression, and make the rich meaning of design works inherit and extend patterns in line with world culture.
In the flying fish suit designed by the Military Design Bureau (as shown in Figure 5), the traditional flying fish pattern is redesigned, but the basic shape is based on the mountain of Taiqi.

It is a multi-text ray, shaped like a carp, the body of the fish and the wings of the bird, the white head of the plain, the red beak, often travels in the West Sea, swims in the East China Sea, flies at night, its sound is like a chicken, its taste is sweet and sour, the food has been crazy, and the world is big when you see it. ”
(2) Application analysis in modern graphic design
The flying fish pattern was more used in clothing in the Ming Dynasty, and the same is true in modern design. The application in graphic design is mostly the origin of the flying fish - the ray (Figure 6).
"The Classic of Mountains and Seas, the Classic of the West Mountains" mentions: "One hundred and eighty miles to the west, the Ya pattern and the four-in-one Ruyi cloud pattern all over the ground are only set off by the cloud pattern under the flying fish."
The heavy industry jacket (as shown in Figure 4b) retains the seawater river pattern under the ornament, reducing the use of Sihe Ruyi moire. Moreover, it also retains the red and yellow color scheme of the traditional flying fish pattern in color.
It can be seen that the flying fish pattern of the Ming Dynasty retains the overall shape of the flying fish more in modern clothing design, and its combination elements of the seawater river pattern and the Sihe Ruyi cloud pattern can be freely combined or deleted.
It symbolizes peace in the world, and its symbolic auspiciousness is used in mascots.
The mascot of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, "Fuwa Beibei", was designed based on the ray (Figure 7), which shows that the auspicious meaning of the flying fish is loved by people.
The ray is a flying fish that symbolizes a leap in sports, taller, faster, and stronger.
The ray flies between the West Sea and the East China Sea, which can symbolize the exchange of civilizations and cultures between the East and the West.
From the point of view of design and styling, the appearance of the ray is a carp with wings, and the extension of the wings has a strong and distinct sense of movement and rhythm, which makes the designers design an ideal mascot pattern.
Fourth, the modern artistic value and significance of the flying fish pattern
(1) Innovation and inheritance of traditional culture
The flying fish pattern is widely used as a fabric pattern, and its beauty and symbolic meaning are worthy of our in-depth study.
The analysis of the expression of flying fish pattern in modern design is helpful to inherit and carry forward China's excellent traditional decoration art, and promote the self-innovation of traditional decoration in the times.

Modern design should have an art form with distinctive national characteristics, which should not be conservative, not to mention rigid and blind worship of national patterns, but to interpret it with ingenuity and modernity.
It brings new content to the inheritance of traditional patterns and carries forward the national culture.
(2) Enrich modern design
In modern language design, especially clothing design, people have a higher pursuit of aesthetics, and the requirements for clothing artistry are getting higher and higher. Traditional culture has brought more meaning to modern clothing design.
The combination of traditional culture and modern design enables people to understand and carry forward the connotation of traditional culture, and at the same time, it can also make Chinese modern design art lead the trend of the times and become an international art form.
With the development of the times, in today's global environment, design works emerge in an endless stream, combining excellent traditional culture such as the flying fish pattern of the Ming Dynasty with modern design techniques.
It can form a unique design style, enhance the aesthetic height of clothing, and convey the design spirit of the designer through these ornaments, and express a deeper concept.
As a kind of traditional ornamentation, the flying fish pattern has a beautiful auspicious meaning and a unique pattern representative, which is worthy of being analyzed and extracted by modern designers for its symbolic characteristics and aesthetic connotation.
V. Conclusion
Ancient Chinese pattern art provides an inexhaustible source of inspiration for art creators. In today's social environment, more and more people pay attention to the innovation and inheritance of traditional culture.
The flying fish pattern is a clothing pattern in the Ming Dynasty, which contains the beautiful meaning of peace in the world and is worthy of being used by modern designers.
Through the case analysis of modern design, the article finds that there are not many works of application of flying fish pattern in modern design in the Ming Dynasty, and the use of patterns in clothing design retains the characteristics of traditional modeling on the one hand and conveys the beautiful meaning of patterns.
On the other hand, the combination elements of seawater, Jiangya pattern and Sihe Ruyi moire were appropriately deleted. Its application in graphic design is mostly the image of the literary ray, and the shape of the flying fish in the Ming Dynasty is rarely used.
The flying fish pattern is a unique clothing pattern in the Ming Dynasty, with a unique shape and cultural meaning. Since its emergence and development to the Ming Dynasty, it has contained a strong artistic vitality and has had a certain impact on modern design.
Inheriting and carrying forward traditional culture is a contemporary social trend, and how to extract elements and innovate is a problem that contemporary designers need to consider.
