From December 3 to 7, the Volunteer Army carried out a comprehensive encirclement of the polar bear regiment under the severe cold conditions of minus 30 or 40 degrees Celsius, and successfully defeated all of them. In this tragic battle, the Polar Bear Regiment not only lost a large number of weapons, equipment and personnel, but more importantly, their morale was hit hard. According to statistics, nearly 8,000 U.S. soldiers were killed or wounded in the battle.
The victory also made the U.S. military aware of the strength of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
