Jiang Qingquan's story

That year, the film projection team came to Daling Village in Jinzhou to play "Heroes and Daughters" for the villagers, but just when everyone was attracted by the story in the movie, an old man silently left the scene. When he returned home, he could no longer control his emotions and cried silently.
This old man is Jiang Qingquan, the prototype of "Wang Cheng" in the movie, he did not die on the battlefield like "Wang Cheng", but survived by luck. But since then, Jiang Qingquan has a knot in his heart that cannot be opened.
In 1949, after the founding of the People's Republic of China, Jiang Qingquan walked out of the rural areas of Northeast China and joined the ranks of the People's Liberation Army. Three years later, Jiang Qingquan's 23rd Army came to the Korean battlefield, and Jiang Qingquan's identity at this time was a walkie-talkie of the 5th Company of the 201st Regiment, responsible for broadcasting the combat situation on the battlefield to the rear command through radio.
Although Jiang Qingquan was born as a farmer, he did not have much knowledge. Jiang Qingquan immediately realized that it was bad and that he had become a prisoner of the American army. In that war era, being a prisoner of the enemy army was the most humiliating thing for every soldier, and Jiang Qingquan even wanted to prove himself with death at one point. But his injuries were too severe for him to resist, and after some time, he had to be sent to a prisoner of war camp.
Here, Jiang Qingquan got to know many comrades-in-arms who were captured like him, and they always encouraged each other to never surrender to the enemy. During their detention by the enemy, Jiang Qingquan and others were severely tortured by the enemy, and they gritted their teeth and persevered.

Jiang Qingquan flatly refused, and finally the angry enemy wanted to stab reactionary slogans on their bodies, Jiang Qingquan resisted even more fiercely, and said that if he really was branded with these slogans, he would immediately bite his tongue and commit suicide.
In the end, under Jiang Qingquan's resistance, the enemy's conspiracy ultimately failed. When he dreamed back at midnight, Jiang Qingquan never figured out why he survived in the first place. It wasn't until 1953 that the Korean War finally ended, and the two warring sides sat on the negotiating table. With the signing of the armistice, the exchange of prisoners of war began.
The name of Jiang Qingquan, who everyone thought had already died, was in the list of returned prisoners of war. At first, Jiang Qingquan knew that he could go home, and he cried with excitement.
After Jiang Qingquan and others returned to China, the organization held a special ceremony for them to welcome them, but each of them bowed their heads silently, and they thought that they were not worthy of the title of hero.
They all believe that as a soldier, dying on the battlefield is the supreme honor, and these honors belong to the soldiers who sacrificed for the country.
A life of incognito
In 1953, Jiang Qingquan rejected the arrangements made by the state for him and returned to his hometown in Northeast China with a lot of heart. In this small mountain village that no one cared about, Jiang Qingquan buried all the past in his heart and began to live an ordinary life.
It wasn't until 11 years later that the advent of "Children of Heroes" brought Jiang Qingquan's story back to the public. "Children of Heroes" is an adaptation of Ba Jin's novel "Reunion". And Wang Cheng's image also integrates the deeds of many combat heroes, among which the most touching scene of "fire at me" is taken from Jiang Qingquan's story.
Back then, on the Korean battlefield, there was a war correspondent named Hong Lu, who learned about Jiang Qingquan's touching deeds and wrote down Jiang Qingquan's story, but due to various factors at that time, not many people knew Jiang Qingquan's story. Finally, when the war was over, Honglu repeatedly published newspapers to look for Jiang Qingquan, whose whereabouts were unknown, and he wrote articles such as "Calling Wang Cheng, Where Are You?" and "Shoot at Me: The Story Behind the Hero's Story" to find Jiang Qingquan.
He even appeared on the stage of "Movie Legend" to let more people know the story of Jiang Qingquan. He believes that Jiang Qingquan is a combat hero and should not be forgotten in the long river of history.
With the popularity of "Children of Heroes", Hong Lu's desire to find Jiang Qingquan became even stronger. It wasn't until 2010 that Honglu finally found Jiang Qingquan's comrade-in-arms Lu Hongkun after hardships. And Lu Hongkun learned Jiang Qingquan's address from the surviving comrades-in-arms of the 23rd Army. In this way, the two embarked on the road to Liaoning to find Jiang Qingquan.

Lu Hongkun's words completely dissipated the dark clouds that had shrouded Jiang Qingquan's head for many years, and the knot that had plagued him for many years was also untied.
