Just entered December, Toyota announced the recall of more than 1.01 million vehicles, what happened?

As soon as it entered December 2023, Toyota announced that it would carry out a large-scale recall in the domestic auto market, with a cumulative recall of more than 1.01 million vehicles, reaching 1016992 units. The main models involved this time are mainly domestic Highlander, imported RX and other models.

On December 1, according to the official website of the State Administration for Market Regulation, Toyota issued three recall notices in China because of potential safety hazards, involving more than 1.01 million vehicles.

First, due to the extreme situation of the vehicle accidentally stalling during low-speed driving, increasing the risk of being rear-ended, Toyota China and GAC Toyota decided to recall 275383 vehicles.

It mainly involves domestic Highlander and imported RX models, including 186837 domestic Highlander vehicles and 88,545 imported RX vehicles.

Second, due to the improper installation structure of the front bumper lower guard plate of the vehicle within the scope of the recall, some of the claws may be loosened when the lower guard plate is bumped.

In this case, the front bumper lower guard and the related parts that are attached to it may fall off, posing a safety hazard. GAC Toyota has decided to recall 168697 domestically produced Highlander vehicles.

Toyota recall

According to the official website of the State Administration for Market Regulation, Mercedes-Benz recalls mainly involve domestic Highlander, imported RX and some domestic Corolla models, involving 57,291 vehicles.

First, FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. is recalling some Corolla vehicles manufactured between August 6, 2019 and July 11, 2023, totaling 350021 vehicles.

Second, GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. recalled some Highlander vehicles produced between October 13, 2018 and January 14, 2022, a total of 157458 vehicles.

Third, Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. recalled some imported RX vehicles produced between September 4, 2018 and September 6, 2022, a total of 68,434 units.

As for the reason for the recall, it is because the vehicles within the scope of this recall may wear and tear inside the fuel pump due to the insufficient pressure resistance of the internal parts of the high-pressure fuel pump, resulting in cracks in the welding parts of the fuel pump due to stress concentration.

In extreme cases, fuel may leak through cracks, exposing it to an external source of ignition, posing a risk of fire. At the same time, fuel leakage and volatilization have unreasonable emission hazards.

In view of this, FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., and Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. will inspect high-pressure fuel pumps for vehicles covered by the recall free of charge.

For parts that do not meet the requirements, they are replaced with improved high-pressure fuel pumps, so as to eliminate potential safety hazards and unreasonable emission hazards for users.

At the same time, it should be pointed out that before the recall is repaired, the vehicle should be avoided as close to the fire source as possible, and if the user finds that there is a fuel odor or fuel seepage, the user should stop using the vehicle and contact the dealer for disposal.

Needless to say, just entering December, Toyota announced a recall of more than 1.01 million vehicles, which is a considerable number. Moreover, the hidden dangers such as engine fire and stalling while driving are not trivial problems.
