Cui Zhi, formerly known as Cui Zhigang, was born in Beijing in 1949 in Baoding, Hebei Province. The father is a famous doctor hanging pot Ji Shi, the mother runs the family and teaches the son to be generous, and he has received traditional culture from childhood. At the age of 13, he learned art from his mentor Tang Jintao, and was admitted to the Jinshi Calligraphy Group of the Beijing Children's Palace, where he studied under the famous calligrapher Mr. Liu Boqin. When he was a teenager, he showed his talent, and his calligraphy and printing works participated in the 1964 and 1965 Beijing Calligraphy and Seal Engraving Exhibition. After graduating from high school, he returned to his hometown of Gaochang in Tang County, Hebei Province, to work as a farmer, and was admitted to the university in 1978, and after graduation, he worked as a teacher and screenwriter in Handan, Hebei Province, for many years. In 1991, he returned to Beijing and worked as a calligraphy editor and editorial director of the Cultural Relics Publishing House for 20 years. Edited large-scale classics such as the Complete Collection of Chinese Legal Books and the Great View of Chinese Authentic Works.

He is currently a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, the president of the Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Collectors Association, the editorial board member of the Calligraphy Series of the Cultural Relics Publishing House, the vice chairman of the Beijing Folk Writers Association, and a visiting professor of Hanshan Normal University. Good at calligraphy, seal carving, simple and subtle style, with its own appearance, not kitsch.

In 2002, he won the first Chinese Calligraphy Lanting Award, and was awarded the Mountain Flower Award of the Chinese Folk Writers Association and the title of Member of Virtue and Art Shuangxin. He has held solo book fairs in Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and held "Three-person Calligraphy Exhibition" and "Fu Zhonglai" calligraphy and painting joint exhibition in Beijing, Zhaoqing and Zibo. He has written a wealth of books, including "Notes on Guiyantang", "Talking Drama", "Cui Zhi's Story Collection" and other 30 kinds of monographs.
