History of Buying a House 2.0: Trapped in the points system

Title: "The War to Buy a House in the Shanghai Housing Market: The Anxiety and Struggle Behind the New Deal, Fundraising, and Points Lottery"

In 2020~2021, under the influence of many factors such as China's epidemic and global water release, Shanghai's housing prices ushered in a wave of growth. In this context, buyers began to do their best to buy a new house, not only need to have funds, but also to fight for points and luck.

According to the data, in 2020, housing prices in Shenzhen increased by 34% year-on-year, Guangzhou by 11.55%, and Shanghai by 8.45%. 2021 is a special year for Shanghai home buyers, with the increase in second-hand housing and the "price jump" of landlords making the new housing market more and more hot. With the introduction of the points lottery policy, buyers no longer only fight for assets and luck, but for points.

The questionnaire "I Bought a New House in Shanghai" received a total of 200+ valid responses, of which 6 home buyers' stories were selected for selection and interview. These six buyers come from different age groups and backgrounds, and their stories involve different situations such as first homes and replacement houses, but they are all full of anxiety and struggle.

Amber is a working-class homebuyer who started her homebuying journey by joining the homebuying community and learning the vernacular of the housing market. She went through the process of lottery, fundraising, etc., and at the same time she was anxious and made great efforts. However, the rapid rise in housing prices and the introduction of new policies have caused her frustration and trouble.

JING, ON THE OTHER HAND, IS A MARRIED HOMEBUYER WHO CHOSE TO BUY A NEW HOME THROUGH A TRADE-IN. However, buying a new house in exchange is more like an adventure for her, because neither money nor luck is uncontrollable. She has gone through several trials and failures, but she is still optimistic about finding solutions and adjusting expectations.

Xiaohe is a new Shanghainese who has been living in public rental housing before. However, as he grew older and considered his living environment, he decided to buy a house to improve his own occupation. Despite facing problems such as lack of points and social security contributions, he chose to stand with young people and actively look for solutions that would not cost the house too much energy.

These stories reflect the anxieties and struggles faced by homebuyers, as well as the current situation of Shanghai's housing market and changes in home buying policies. The problems and confusions in the housing market boom have become a common challenge for home buyers.

Whether we are buyers or observers, we should show understanding and respect for the efforts and struggles of home buyers. They put in a lot of effort and effort to buy their ideal house. Although the reality may not be as good as it could be, homebuyers still want to find a solution and make their dream of buying a home come true.

In this context, the government and relevant departments should actively adjust the real estate policy, pay more attention to the interests of home buyers, provide more just, fair and reasonable opportunities to buy houses, so that more people can realize their good wishes to live. Only in this way can buyers find a true sense of belonging and security in the real estate market.
