Eight years later, why do I go to see the Big Wild Goose Pagoda again?

author:Nie Anton

The last time I was in Xingping, I planned to visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda again if I had enough time. Because, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and Master Xuanzang are inextricably linked. And Xuanzang learned scriptures from the West, and there are too many fascinating stories.

Eight years later, why do I go to see the Big Wild Goose Pagoda again?

On the afternoon of October 19, when I came to Xi'an Datang Sleepless City from Xingping, it was already six o'clock in the evening, and the park might have finished work. I had no choice but to look at the ancient Big Wild Goose Pagoda from a distance outside, and take a few photos of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda under the sunset.

More than ten years ago, I heard Professor Qian Wenzhong's "Xuanzang's Journey to the West" on CCTV's "Hundred Lectures". Among them, what left the deepest impression on me was that Xuanzang was in the 800-kilometer Moheyan Desert, without a drop of water, relying on tenacious perseverance and firm faith, experienced four days and five nights of life and death tests, and finally walked out of the treacherous thousand-mile desert.

Now, though, there's an unobtrusive detail that fascinates me deeply. That is, in the first year of Zhenguan, Xuanzang and his companions applied to the imperial court to learn scriptures from the Western Regions, but they were not allowed. The reason? Because the western border of the Tang Dynasty was not peaceful at that time, Tang Taizong Li Shimin did not approve this trip to the Western Regions out of this consideration.

When the other monks heard the news, they all retreated, and only Xuanzang did not give up. He was secretly preparing, learning Sanskrit, exercising, and laying a good foundation for his trip to the Western Regions.

Two years later, the capital suffered a famine, and the imperial court allowed the people to go out to eat. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Xuanzang left the capital, mingled among the people, and arrived in Liangzhou. From here, it took three years to complete a person's long march and create a miracle on earth.

What interests me the most is that the other companions have flinched, why didn't Xuanzang resign himself to fate like them? But it is full of the positive spirit of "my life is up to me", why is this?

I tried to find the answer from the core ideas of Buddhism. In the practice of the Noble Eightfold Path in Buddhism, I seem to have found the answer, which is to be diligent. It means to move boldly towards the goal of truth.

What is certain is that Xuanzang is by no means an ordinary monk who follows the rules. Since he thinks that the true scriptures of Buddhism are in Tianzhu in the Western Regions, then he thinks that the true scriptures are the truth of Buddhism. In order to obtain the truth, he had to overcome all obstacles to obtain it. Even if it was an obstacle from the imposing emperor, he had to do everything possible to break through. Without such determination and courage, it would not have been possible to accomplish this unprecedented and shocking feat.

McKay, an American entrepreneur, has a formula about success, success = determination + goal setting + concentration. The touching story of Xuanzang who is not afraid of the difficulties of learning scriptures in the Western Regions shows that Xuanzang has perfectly achieved the above three points. According to the three immortal standards of the ancients of "virtue, speech, and meritorious service", Xuanzang has also become an immortal historical figure that future generations will never forget. #Wonderful Writing Challenge#
