Historically, there is a figure whose identity is erratic and has been taken in by Egypt, Rome, and Palestine. But no matter where he was, he didn't behave very friendly. Who is he? Why is he so vicious? In ancient Egypt, this man was treated as a "leading party" who sold his country and betrayed his countrymen. When he was taken in by Rome, he was not treated better.
Instead, he betrayed Rome and led a rebel army to slaughter the city, killing hundreds of thousands of people. Even though the Roman army fought all the way to suppress the Jewish rebellion, this man remained unpunished. Recently, he was taken in by the Palestinians, only to inflict even more suffering on Palestinians in "open-air concentration camps".
How does this man manage to constantly switch sides and at the same time mercilessly slaughter innocent people? What makes him so cruel? Does he really have no conscience? The truth of history may never be fully restored, but we can see some commonalities in this person. He constantly betrayed his country and his fellow citizens, disregarding the lives and rights of others.
This lack of conscience and moral restraint is intolerable in any era. How can we view this person and avoid similar tragedies from happening again? Perhaps we need to be clear about our values and beliefs and not succumb to evil for any benefit. At the same time, we need to strengthen education on ethics and human rights to guide people to follow their conscience and make the right choices.
Finally, we can't help but ask: in today's world, is there a person like this? How do we respond?
