But in fact, as early as 1985, the mainland had the opportunity to break this layer of technical barriers, but because of a miscalculation, not only did the mainland pay a price of trillions.
It made a generation of aviation genius expert Ma Fengshan regret, and the domestic passenger aircraft was also delayed for nearly 40 years.
What happened in between? Why did the mainland suddenly stop its R&D program at that time?
For the name Y-20, I believe many friends are no strangers, this is a military transport aircraft independently developed by the mainland, which is of great strategic significance, and its scientific and technological level is the world's leading level.
But as early as the 80s of the last century, Continental successfully developed the Y-10, our first jet airliner, and Ma Fengshan played an important role in it.
Under the leadership of Ma Fengshan, researchers worked day and night to deduce and calculate.
Since at that time our technology in passenger aircraft transportation was completely blank, the infrastructure was almost completely absent, plus there was no Soviet help.
Therefore, the research and development of the Y-10 can be called a tall building on the ground, and how difficult it is can be imagined.
But Ma Fengshan and other research members did not give up, since there is no experience and no support, we will create our own.
Because Ma Fengshan has experience in the research and development of bombers, after investigation, he believes that aviation technology can be developed on the basis of bombers.
Although one of the two is to transport ammunition and the other is to transport people, there are still similarities in the essence of the two.
At that time, there were only three countries in the world that could independently develop and manufacture passenger aircraft, and if the mainland was successful, it could become the fourth, but this goal was ridiculed by Western countries.
They believe that if China wants to build its own passenger planes, it will have to wait at least another fifty years.
But the slap in the face often came quickly, and it took Ma Fengshan and his team only a few years to complete the development of the Y-10 in 1980.
And in the next inspection link, the indicators of Y-10 were perfectly up to standard, and when watching Y-10 soaring freely in the sky, Ma Fengshan's heart could not contain his excitement.
But he immediately set his sights on the next stage, it is not enough to develop success, only to be able to put into production, is real success.
But just when he was ready to go to work, an accident happened...
According to the relevant departments, because the state did not have enough funds at that time, it was no longer able to support the production and construction of the Y-10.
At the same time, the Western countries that got the news also began to put pressure on the mainland and threatened trade and orders to force us to stop the production of the Y-20.
Seeing this situation, Ma Fengshan immediately realized that something was wrong, so he immediately went to the relevant departments to lobby, and in view of the problem of insufficient funds, Ma Fengshan promised to save resources.
In response to the Western threat, Ma Fengshan promised to shorten the construction period, in a word, Ma Fengshan is fully confident that the production of the Y-10 will be completed quickly under the condition of quality and quantity.
But the final result was not satisfactory, because there was a lack of funds on the mainland at that time, and there were many other projects to study, so the production and construction of the Y-10 was stopped.
Ma Fengshan, who got the news, was desperate because he knew what it meant.
Ma Fengshan was born in troubled times, and since he was a child, he saw the Japanese bombers bombarding overhead, so he knew that backwardness would be beaten, and it was with this belief that he held.
After Ma Fengshan returned from the Soviet Union, he immediately began to study bombers, and eventually developed the H-6 fighter.
At the same time, he prefers Chinese to get on his plane.
After the production of Y-10 came to a standstill, another miscalculation by the mainland directly led to a loss of trillions.
Although the H-10 was suspended at that time, the demand for passenger aircraft still objectively existed, so the mainland could only find aircraft manufacturers internationally to cooperate.
After some investigation, an American company called "McDonnell Douglas" came into our sight.
Because McDonnell Douglas has the lowest price of all suppliers, it's not that he gave us much discount, but because there is a problem with the aircraft produced by this company.
Due to design shortcomings, McDonnell Douglas' aircraft performance such as flight speed would be affected, but the company was not able to improve this situation at the time.
However, despite the shortcomings in the design, the safety of the aircraft was still guaranteed, which was more cost-effective for the mainland at that time, and finally the two sides signed a cooperation agreement immediately.
But unexpectedly, soon after, McDonnell Douglas underwent a huge change, the company was eventually acquired by Boeing due to poor management, followed by changes in the composition of corporate assets and operating strategies.
At the same time, the mainland passenger aircraft market has also been greatly affected, and the losses have been heavy.
In this case, Ma Fengshan applied for research and development again, and the state also restarted the plan, with Ma Fengshan as the overall commander.
From 1980 to 1989, ten years have passed, Ma Fengshan has also entered old age from the prime of life, coupled with the high-intensity work on weekdays, his body has become very weak.
But even so, Ma Fengshan worked day and night to successfully produce Chinese passenger aircraft, and finally, in 1990, Ma Fengshan was overwhelmed and fell ill.
Before dying, Ma Fengshan always looked out the window blankly, as if there was still something unfinished in his heart, although everyone knew it, but no one could help.
In this way, he finally passed away with regret.
Fortunately, more than 30 years later, Ma Fengshan's wish has finally been realized by his juniors.
The domestic C919 passenger aircraft is not only independently developed and designed, but also has a localization rate of 60%, which is an achievement that Airbus and Boeing have failed to make.
And this time our domestic passenger aircraft, not only used in China, but also went abroad and went to the world, before the C919 was officially put into commercial use, it had already won more than a thousand orders.
It can be seen that the world today trusts Chinese manufacturing.
On the other hand, among the same class of passenger aircraft as Airbus and Boeing, C919 has stronger performance, but the purchase price is lower, which means that Continental now has a fairly mature technology and perfect industrial chain in the field of passenger aviation.
I believe that if Ma Fengshan can see the Chinese passenger plane today, he will definitely feel gratified.
