In 1949, Zhu Junyou faced the fate of being shot. He was desperate. The night before, just as he was preparing to face the execution, two Kuomintang agents suddenly rescued him.
In 1917, Zhu Junyou was born into a wealthy landowning family in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, and his family was known as "Zhu Caishen" and "Zhu Bancheng".
In 1938, when Zhu Junyou was still in middle school, he decided to join the revolution and joined the Chengdu Mass Anti-Enemy Propaganda Group, which was affiliated with the Communist Party, and began his revolutionary career.
In 1945, Zhu Junyou successfully graduated from the law department of Sichuan University. Under the introduction of democrat Fan Puzhai, he joined the 27th District of the Chengdu City of the China Democratic League, known for its patriotic united front.
He was in charge of finance in the department, raising funds for underground revolutionary activities. From 1946 to 1949, Zhu Junyou also had an important and dangerous job: listening to the radio regularly every night, gathering intelligence, and sorting it into materials for the underground party.
In 1949, the civil war between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party came to an end, and the Kuomintang's suppression of underground organizations intensified. One day in November, Zhu Junyou completed the intelligence handover task as usual, but was captured by Kuomintang agents on the way home.
The enemy used brutal torture to extract confessions, but Zhu Junyou remained tight-lipped about it. It was precisely because of his strength that the intelligence network of the underground organization was not completely destroyed. Zhu Junyou is imprisoned at the Yudaiqiao Detention Center, where he supports each other with his comrade Liao Chenglin. Later, he was transferred to the prison of the General Yamen Provincial Special Committee.
In December 1949, as the People's Liberation Army approached Chengdu, Kuomintang agents planned to eliminate these underground party members. Zhu Junyou learns that he may be secretly executed, so he gives his belongings to his cellmates to express his final farewell.
Late that night, the special agent called Zhu Junyou out. He thought his life would end, but when he arrived at the prison gate, he saw his brother-in-law Yang Yifu and the head of the secret service, Xu Jida. They saved Zhu Junyou's life.
He later learned that more than 30 people had been secretly executed during the operation, and only Zhu Junyou had been spared. He witnessed those comrades leave at the door of the cell, and their gazes were firm and resolute, a moment that was still deeply imprinted in Zhu Junyou's mind. He couldn't help but shed tears for those comrades who sacrificed, and solemnly buried this history deep in his heart.
After the founding of New China, Zhu Junyou continued to work in CPPCC and other organizations, making contributions to national construction. In his later years, he often recalled the difficult years he spent with his comrades in his youth. In the face of those dark days, they cost their lives and looked forward to the arrival of light.
It is the sacrifice of countless people that has brought about today's happy life. Zhu Junyou represents countless revolutionaries who quietly dedicated their lives, and their efforts created the birth of New China.
