However, in this disaster, a group of people resolutely devoted themselves to the rescue work, regardless of their own safety, day and night, and did their best to save one life after another. They resisted the flood with their youthful strength, and they built an indestructible defense line with their solid bodies. They are the People's Liberation Army Chinese People's Liberation Army.
Among them, Dong Wanrui was the commander-in-chief of the Yangtze River flood prevention and rescue in 1998, and he led more than 30,000 officers and men to fight for five days and five nights, and finally blocked the Jiujiang Pass. His only son also joined the flood fighting team, and when father and son met, the general did not feel sorry for his son, but expressed his concern and pride. During the flood fighting period, Li Xiangqun, a hero of flood fighting, participated in eight emergency battles and insisted on emergency rescue despite illness. He fainted on the levee, and when the flood overflowed, he pulled the recruits down and jumped on it himself to stack sandbags. In the end, Li Xiangqun died heroically due to overwork at the age of 20.
Not only on the battlefield, the heroic actions of the PLA also touched the population. On August 8, 1998, the Chinese Premier personally went to the front line of flood control in Hubei. After listening to the report on the anti-flood fight, the Prime Minister expressed his condolences to the anti-flood fighters. He stepped forward and hugged the commander-in-chief tightly, and this hug conveyed deep gratitude and trust.
For the people affected by the floods, they can only watch the water level rise day by day, and there is nowhere to go but to stay in high places and dare not move. In the fight against the floods, people saw hope for young lives. Although the children faced the floodwaters, they were protected by the soldiers with umbrellas and held up with their hands. Their boat of life floats on muddy waters, showing its pure and beautiful side in the midst of devastation.
After dozens of hours of continuous fighting, the fighters can finally get a moment of rest. They were exhausted and fell asleep to regain their strength. But within a few hours, they got up again and continued fighting.
Flood fighters face not only the flood, but also the sun. They carried out rescue work under the scorching sun, without regard for the pain of burning all over their bodies. Their skin is sunburned and sunburned, but they still insist on fighting floods, carrying sand and soil with their solid arms and building human walls. Their tenacity and iron bones are touching.
After the anti-flood battle, the citizens of Jiujiang bid farewell to their children and soldiers with tears. Hundreds of thousands of people bid farewell to the soldiers in tears, and heavy rain fell like a point. Vehicles loaded with soldiers slowly drove by, and people stretched out their hands to say goodbye to them excitedly. Some people stuffed letters written by their children into their cars to express their gratitude. Some people also brought their own food to the soldiers, including apples, cereals, ham sausages, etc. This touching scene is unforgettable.
This catastrophic flood will be remembered by future generations, and the soldiers on the front lines of flood control will always be admired and remembered.
