At about 8:45 a.m. Beijing time on October 12, during the voyage of the "Experiment 6" research vessel, the duty officer found a turtle parading slowly and trapped in a fishing net.

According to nautical common sense, if turtles are not rescued in time, they may become more and more entangled in fishing nets, resulting in their inability to forage and death. The expedition team immediately launched a rescue operation.

Through the joint efforts of everyone, the turtles were quickly salvaged on the bow deck. Upon closer inspection, it was found that the turtle's limbs and head were tightly entangled in fishing nets, some of which had been embedded in the turtle's flesh, but no serious trauma was found, and the turtle was in good health.

After the scientific expedition team members identified it, it was preliminarily determined that this was a green sea turtle, which was distributed in all oceans of the world. Sea turtles are a large and ancient marine reptile that is more than 150 million years old and is known as a "living fossil" and is essential for the balance of marine ecosystems.

However, due to human activities, illegal trade, environmental pollution, etc., sea turtles are currently endangered. As early as 1988, the mainland listed sea turtles as national second-class key protected wild animals in the Wildlife Protection Law.

The expedition team carefully used scissors to cut the nets off the turtles, and worked together to carry the turtles to the stern of the boat, release them into the sea, and treat the discarded nets harmlessly.
