Sony PlayStation officially announced the long-rumored new PlayStation 5 console, smaller and lighter, the optical drive is now individually removable, and it also comes with a newly designed base. Sony said that the new PlayStation 5 console is designed to meet the changing needs of gamers, so it chose to package the same functionality in a smaller space.
Compared to the original model, the new PlayStation 5 console is more than 30% smaller and 18% and 24% heavier, respectively. It has four separate covers, the top part is still smooth and the bottom is matte. The new PlayStation 5 console will be available in some U.S. retailers and official websites starting in November, divided into a standard version with a Blu-ray drive and a digital version without a Blu-ray drive, and will be rolled out globally in the next few months, and the original model will gradually clear the inventory and be replaced by the new model.

- The detachable Blu-ray drive is also sold separately for $79.99 / €119.99 / £99.99 / JPY11,980
- Sony will also offer a console cover in different colors for $54.99 / €54.99 / £44.99 / JPY7,480, which will go on sale in early 2024
