According to information released by the Myanmar Fire Brigade, the city of Bago in Bago province has suffered the worst flooding in 60 years. In order to carry out rescue work, they have sent special rescue teams.
Floodwaters have invaded the city of Bago due to continuous heavy rains that have caused the water in the Bago River to rise well above the warning level. The director of the Bago provincial fire department led firefighters and reservists to assist the victims in relocating them to nearby monasteries and rescue centres.
The Myanmar Fire Brigade said that in order to assist the firefighters in Bago province to carry out rescue work in real time, they dispatched a special fire rescue team on the morning of October 9. The rescue team, armed with motorboats, rescue equipment and surface life-saving equipment, rushed to the city of Bago.
In addition, due to the flooding of the city of Bago, the city's basic education schools were forced to close temporarily.
A member of a regional nonprofit organization working on relief efforts said all schools in Bago were temporarily closed because flooding had prevented schools from attending normally and were unsafe. In addition, some students' homes were flooded, and roads and schools were filled with water, so they could only be temporarily closed.
At present, these non-profit organizations are assisting schools in transferring relevant documents and helping students affected by the disaster.
The Bago Education Bureau said that the temporarily closed schools will resume normal operations as soon as possible and strive to ensure that students' studies are not affected. They plan to reopen as soon as the floodwaters recede to ensure students can continue their education.
