Section 9 Cultural Landmark in the New Era - Great North Gate Cultural Industrial Park
Luoyang Dabeimen Cultural Industrial Park is located at No. 118, Xuanwumen Street, Yihe District, and is rebuilt on the former site of Luoyang Machine Tool Factory and Luoyang Ordnance Institute. It is not only a new landmark of Luoyang culture that young people are keen to "check in" and patronize, but also a "living fossil" of Luoyang's old industrial base - the old industrial sites and architectural remains in the park, which has been selected into the second batch of historical buildings in Luoyang City.
In the strolling park, there are modern cultural and commercial institutions such as children's song and dance theaters, art galleries, libraries, cinemas, swimming pools, gyms, bars, pottery bars, tea bars, etc. They are grafted on the old factory buildings of the mid-to-late 20th century, retro nostalgia and modern fashion collide across eras, mixing and matching a touching charm that fits modern aesthetics, and men and women of all ages who "check in", visit, play and consume are endless.
First, the old factory area witnesses the way to come
The predecessor of Luoyang Dabeimen Cultural Industrial Park was the Luoyang Machine Tool Factory and Luoyang Ordnance Institute (Luoyang Military Sub-district Firearms Institute) built in the middle and late 20th century.
The Great North Gate Industrial Site has a large number of old industrial plant buildings in the planned economy era, of which the Soviet-style brick and wood structure factory built in the 50s of the 20th century alone has a construction area of more than 3,000 square meters.
These old factories are an important relic of the industrial civilization of New China and a historical evidence of Luoyang's industrial development road. They reflect the historical style and local characteristics of Luoyang industrial buildings, witness the development process of Luoyang's modern industry from scratch and gradually grow, and carry the passionate youth memories of several generations of Luoyang builders.
In history, thirteen dynasties successively established their capital in Luoyang. During the Jin Yuan period, the city of Luoyang declined and the area of the city shrank. At that time, the Great North Gate was the north gate of the old city of Jinyuan, which was later damaged by repeated wars. The Great North Gate industrial site is located just outside the North City Gate.
In 1949, the Luoyang Military Subdistrict Firearms Repair Institute was set up here, which was specially responsible for building all kinds of firearms and providing weapons support for front-line bandits and anti-hegemons, so as to eliminate the remnants of the Kuomintang forces, bandits and bullies, and stabilize the social order in the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
In 1951, the Luoyang Military Subdistrict Firearms Institute was transferred to Luoyang Local State-Owned Enterprise, becoming the first state-owned enterprise in Luoyang after the founding of the People's Republic of China, and received a group of Shanghai workers responsible for the production of agricultural machinery and residents' daily necessities.
In 1956, the Luoyang Military Subdistrict Firearms Institute was renamed the local state-owned Luoyang Agricultural Machinery Factory. When the state's "First Five-Year Plan" began to be implemented, technical experts and young workers from all over the country came to Los Angeles to support the construction of 10 major factories and mines in Luoyang. The construction team started construction in Luoyang West and Jianxi one after another, and the Luoyang Agricultural Machinery Factory is the activity base for experts and cadres to strategize and direct construction, and the preparatory headquarters is located here.
In 1958, Luoyang Agricultural Machinery Factory was renamed Luoyang Machine Tool Factory. In the following decades, Luoyang Machine Tool Factory grew along with the Republic, and its products sold well in the north and south, making significant contributions to the growth of Luoyang and even the national economy.
Second, the old factory building is rejuvenated
The wheel of history rolls forward. At the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, with the in-depth advancement of reform and opening up, the state called for "retreating two into three", encouraging the development of sluggish construction industries and manufacturing industries with poor returns to accelerate economic restructuring, withdraw from cities, vigorously develop service industries, and adapt to the new needs of market economic development.
In 2003, the powerful Luoyang Yincheng Real Estate Company (now Luoyang Yin'an Chengfang Industrial Co., Ltd.) took over the transformation and development project of the Great North Gate Industrial Plant through overall replacement.
In 2011, Luoyang Machine Tool Factory moved out as a whole and built separately. Luoyang Yincheng Real Estate Company initially planned to convert the old factory site into a commercial building, but the nature of land operation did not allow it; Moreover, considering that historical sites are not renewable, the old factory building will be gone, and it is a pity to destroy the collective memory of the older generation in Luoyang, so they abandoned the plan to demolish the factory and build a building.
After that, the company planned to cooperate with the Wenzhou small commodity distribution market and rely on the old factory to build a small commodity distribution center in the Central Plains, which was also shelved for various reasons.
In 2013, Luoyang Yincheng Real Estate Company sent a team to visit Sichuan and accidentally found that local factory and mine renovation projects (such as Chengdu Wide and Narrow Alley) were developing very well. After careful feasibility analysis, the company decided to build a brand new cultural industrial park in Dabeimen, closely combining the old industrial plant with Luoyang's cultural industry, cultivating culture with culture, promoting business with culture, revitalizing idle resources and releasing new vitality.
In order to protect the old industrial sites, the company takes factory protection, garden style, culture and leisure as the theme, plans to build a courtyard-style comprehensive economy - Dabeimen Cultural Industrial Park, and sets up nine functional service areas according to the original industrial building pattern, the exterior decoration is repaired as old, and the interior is protected and utilized.
Since the start of construction in 2016, after many years of investment attraction and reconstruction, the Dabeimen Cultural Industry Park has bloomed brightly. At present, the park covers an area of about 50 acres, and the project covers an area of 33,155 square meters, leading into dozens of commercial and cultural institutions such as stationed hotels, wedding hotels, movie cities, studios, art galleries, art galleries, children's song and dance theaters, children's libraries, preschool education centers, dance schools, swimming and fitness clubs, pottery experience halls, tea culture intangible cultural heritage living rooms, bars, wineries, restaurants, etc., including accommodation, wedding reception, special food, cultural performances, art exhibitions, education and training, fitness, entertainment and other formats, eating, living and traveling, travel, shopping, entertainment one-stop service, balanced and rich, has become the vanguard of the development of the cultural tourism industry in Yihe.
