Introducing the Han Jiwei Project: Breaking through the Qinling Mountains and bringing new vitality
On July 16, 2023, after more than ten years of hard construction, the major water conservancy project in the mainland - the Hanjiwei Project, successfully achieved the early opening of water. The project is regarded as Shaanxi's "South-to-North Water Diversion Project", connecting the three rivers of the Han, Yellow and Wei rivers to achieve the rational allocation and utilization of water resources. This breakthrough in the Qinling Mountains and the construction of nearly 100 kilometers of the Qinling Tunnel is an arduous and great project.
Breaking through the dividing line between the north and the south and introducing the Han-Jiwei project has brought new vitality and hope to Shaanxi. This project is of great significance to the cities and counties in the Guanzhong region. The most direct beneficiary is the provincial capital city of Xi'an, where years of water shortage have been solved and the city's economic development has been promoted. The project also provided domestic water to key cities such as Xianyang and Weinan, as well as 11 counties, benefiting tens of millions of people. At the same time, the project has provided water for millions of acres of land and promoted agricultural development.
Excavating the Qinling Tunnel was the most challenging part of the overall Han-Jiwei project. The total length of the tunnel reached 98.3 kilometers, and the excavation process faced many difficulties such as a buried depth of 2,012 meters and rare construction difficulties. Chief designer Li Lingzhi led the team to overcome countless difficulties and complete the excavation of the tunnel, making great contributions to the success of the Hanjiwei project.
The Qinling region has long been considered the dividing line between the north and the south, and the construction of the Han-Jiwei project required crossing this mountain range that stretched for thousands of miles. Digging through the Qinling Mountains requires not only overcoming geographical difficulties, but also facing complex geological environment and ecological protection issues. In order to ensure that the project does not adversely affect the local ecological environment, the preliminary investigation work has become extremely important. During the survey, they chose a reasonable tunnel location to save national investment. They also coordinated and solved the travel and electricity problems of local residents, helping ordinary people solve their problems for many years.
The Qinling region is one of the most important ecological reserves on the mainland, full of mysterious and sacred colors. The construction of the Hanjiwei project avoids destroying the surrounding ecological environment and wildlife habitat as much as possible during the construction process, and promotes the harmonious coexistence between man and nature. The design of the project will help reduce geological disasters caused by groundwater overexploitation and restore the ecology of the Wei River.
The construction of the Han Jiwei Project is an arduous and great project, a great achievement built by thousands of ordinary people with their hands. Its merits are in contemporary times and beneficial in the future, bringing new vitality and hope to the Guanzhong region. Here, I would like to pay tribute to everyone who participated in the construction of the water conservancy project, thank them for their hard work and dedication.
The successful breakthrough of the Hanjiwei project marks that China has made key progress in the field of water conservancy engineering. We hope that the Hanji-Weiwei project will bring more development opportunities and improve people's livelihood in the Guanzhong region, and also hope to promote the realization of more similar projects in China under the premise of protecting the environment and ecology. Let us witness the take-off and development of China's water conservancy industry!
