The reporter learned that the tombs of King Mingchu are an important cultural heritage of Wuhan, Hubei Province. In 2001, the tomb of King Mingchu was announced by the State Council as the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. In December 2022, the tomb of King Mingchu was successfully selected as the fourth batch of national archaeological site park projects.

In order to strive for a national archaeological site park, according to the "Ming Chu King Tomb Archaeological Site Park Plan", a museum with Ming Dynasty style and regional characteristics and a visitor center with complete functions will be built, and a special place will be created to focus on interpreting heritage values, displaying movable cultural relics, and carrying out academic exchanges and dissemination. The site park divides the system of value interpretation into a general theme, three sub-themes and five aspects of display content: one general theme is set as "Julongquan Nine Kings, Prove Chu Land and Ming Dynasty, Lasting More than 200 Years, Tombs of the Kings of the Chu Domain", of which the tombs of the nine kings of the Chu family in the Ming Dynasty are the core values, and the landscape pattern and cultural scenery of Longquan are the background environment.

The three sub-themes include "The Funeral System of the Ming Dynasty Lords", "The Politics, Economy and Culture of the Chu Prince's Fief in the Ming Dynasty", and "Longquan Mountain Scenery and Cultural Historical Sites". The five areas of display include: mountain and river landforms, nine Qiyuan Gardens, Qiyuan buildings (or ruins), excavated cultural relics and other historical and cultural relics.

In order to build a spatial relationship between the theme, objects and content of the exhibition, the plan sets the exhibition structure as follows: one ring, one belt, nine gardens, and twelve scenes, forming a complete and detailed tour line of "watching the tombs of the nine kings of Longquan and listening to the hegemony of the lords of the domain".

Wuhan Optics Valley China Science and Technology Park Investment Co., Ltd., the organizer of the construction of the Ming Chu King Tomb Archaeological Site Park, introduced that in order to lay the foundation for the creation of the Ming Chu King Tomb National Archaeological Site Park, it is planned to build a museum and visitor center in the west entrance of the park, north of the intersection of Longquan Avenue and Landscape Road, within the planning and design area of about 2.48 hectares, improve the supporting facilities of the park and form an important comprehensive service node and portal image of the park. In order to complete the architectural design proposals with high standards and high quality, the call for architectural design proposals for the museum and visitor center began on September 19.

The solicitation plan has a gross floor area of about 8,000 square meters, including a museum building area of about 4,000 square meters, a visitor center construction area of about 2,000 square meters, and an administrative building area of about 2,000 square meters.

The call is divided into three stages: pre-qualification, proposal competition and final review, from September to December 2023. The organizer will organize and invite well-known experts in related fields, involving architecture and urban design, urban and rural planning, historical and cultural heritage protection, landscape architecture and tourism planning, industry authorities and other industry expert teams, to review the concept proposal in detail, select 7 shortlisted institutions, and give awards ranging from 200,000 to 800,000 yuan.

According to reports, the Longquan Mountain area of the Optics Valley, where the tomb of King Mingchu is located, has been valued by scholars, literati and scholars since the Western Han Dynasty because of its unique mountain shape, beautiful mountains and beautiful environment, and has become an important place for them to live or be buried. The tombs of Fan He, Marquis of Han Wuyang, Li Yan, Prime Minister of Tang, Li Daozong, King of Jiangxia, Feng Sanyuan, Privy Council of Song Zhi and Attendant University, Shen Rujun of Yuanguan Wendian, Shangshu Zhang Tianyou of the Ministry of Mingguan, and others were left behind. After Zhu Zhen took a fancy to Longquan Mountain, a treasure land of feng shui, he named it "Xian Lang" and turned it into "Sleeping Mountain". Since Zhu Zhen, the Zhao, Zhuang, Xian, Kang, Jing, Duan, Shu, Gong and He Eight Dynasties and Nine Kings Gardens have been built successively, forming the most complete tomb group of clan kings throughout the Ming Dynasty, and is the only national ancient burial site in Wuhan.
