The Cambridge Gang of Five refers to a group of left-wing intellectuals and political activists active at Cambridge University in the early 60s of the 20th century. Although their fame is not limited to the five, the term is commonly used to describe the following five main members:
John Lennon: One of the most famous members, the lead singer and songwriter of The Beatles. Together with other members, he created great works in the history of music.
Paul McCartney: Also a member of The Beatles, as lead singer and bassist. Together with Lennon, he composed many pop classics.
George Harrison: One of the guitarists of The Beatles, he was also a member of the Gang of Five. He later developed his music career as a solo singer.
Ritchie Starkey (stage name: Ringo Starr): He is the drummer of The Beatles and a member of the Gang of Five. He later started his music career under the name Ringo Starr.
Stuart Sutcliffe: He was the original bassist on the Beatles, but later quit the band. He was part of the Gang of Five, although his musical career was relatively short.
Members of the Cambridge Gang of Five had a huge impact on British music and culture at the time.
