From September 23 to October 8, 2023, the 19th Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou. In anticipation of the Asian Games, Hangzhou and other parts of Zhejiang have designed and built Asian Games-themed arenas, sports centers and sports landscapes.

Asian Games baseball and softball stadium
Integrate into the city's sports community
As the largest newly built venue of this Asian Games, Hangzhou Asian Games Baseball and Softball Sports and Cultural Center is also the largest, highest standard and most advanced baseball and softball sports center in China.
The School of Architecture of Zhejiang University believes that sports architecture should not stop at sports functions, but should emphasize flexible public services to adapt to the social trend of openness and sharing. Build a sports community-style sports culture complex to make it the gravitational core of the surrounding environment and region.
Different from the traditional sports hall, the design hopes to break the stereotype of relatively closed sports buildings, fully consider the multiple possibilities in the urban context, and form a sports and cultural complex with a baseball field, training center and physical training hall.
"Inheriting history and reflecting regional cultural characteristics" is an important response of this design to urban culture. The design draws inspiration from the artistic conception of Shaoxing water town and textile culture, showing a unique concept that fits the region.
The building façade extracts curved elements from traditional cultural symbols such as ribbons, scrolls, and tile roofs, and uses curved perforated aluminum plate materials to create the image of Jiangnan with continuous water waves.
The perforated patterns of different proportions and forms of perforated aluminum panels give the façade a unique technical rhythm, continue the poetry of traditional textile craftsmen, and evoke the people's memory of regional culture.

Fuyang Yinhu Sports Center
A venue that comes out of a Chinese painting

The site is surrounded by mountains in the west and north, the south side is water, and the east side is connected to the city, standing in the center of the site, and surrounded by mountains, which is consistent with Huang Gongwang's Fuchun Mountain residence of "where the prosperity comes, and the arrangement is as promised".
At the site, 5 elevation terraces are set up to respond to the changes in the height difference of the mountain, fully consider the protection of the natural environment of the mountain, reduce the excavation of the mountain, and balance the earthwork inside. Efficiently connect the three competition events through the second-floor platform and organize the flow of people reasonably.
In the landscape, the shooting complex hall has a square plan and a huge volume, and the architectural shape adopts the connection of multi-section slope roofs, conforming to the surrounding mountains, dissolving the building volume, and integrating the building with nature.
The façade design adopts parametric means and pixelation techniques to carry out a modern interpretation of the Fuchun Mountain House map, completing a process from abstraction to concrete, and expressing abstraction from figuration.
On the epidermis, the design uses louvers as unit modules, which are rotated at different angles through more than 37,000 unit modules.
Using a low-key and simple hinge method, "using the hundred leaves as the pen and the sunlight as the ink", the natural scenery on the banks of the Fuchun River is once again delineated.
The skin that changes with the light tells the story of light, the day is moving and vibrant, and the shadows of the shutters have been silently recording these traces of the passage of time.
The project aims to illustrate nature in natural landscapes, take from nature, imitate nature, express nature, and interpret nature. Through brushwork, technique and tectonic techniques, the image of the Jiangnan landscape of "Fuchun Mountain Residence" is repainted.

Hangzhou Canal Asian Games Park
The integration of parks and urban roads
Located at the southernmost end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, the newly built Canal Asian Games Park is the largest sports park in the main city and the final venue for table tennis, breakdancing and hockey competitions.
The project makes full use of the characteristics of topography and landform, combines park design with sports function design, and carries out the overall layout with the layout of north and south double stars in the south hall and north field.
The South Pavilion served as the focal point of the entire park in the planning and design, and was naturally shelved in the land like pebbles in the river. The front square adopts smooth natural lines, and organically integrates the building and landscape through paving, water features, grassy slopes and other elements.
The soft "body within the body" wrapped space, the structure and aesthetics are intertwined and perfectly combined, and the architectural curves and landscape curves create a unique beauty of sports architecture and landscape integration.
At the top of the hockey stadium stands is a lightweight and elegant long-span roof, the curved shape is organically integrated with the sunken hockey playing field, the plan and the general plan are integrated, and the façade is harmoniously integrated with the park landscape.
In order to enhance the accessibility of the north and south parks, the park is designed to have a promenade through the ecological canyon that spans the north and south plots.
The design also considers urban design, public space, interior and exterior functions synergically through a strolling roof shared garden, forming a diversified and shared sports and leisure park.
The park as a whole is an urban shared space without fences, with a variety of services, rest spaces, outdoor landscapes, and sports spaces in the park, which have become a gathering place for the surrounding people and visitors.

Jinhua Asian Games Village
Modern expression and artistic translation of the traditional courtyard
As a sub-venue of the Hangzhou Asian Games, the design and presentation of the Asian Games Village will become one of the important windows for Jinhua cultural display.
As another display of the supporting project of GAD comprehensive events, Jinhua Asian Games Village is mainly composed of three functional areas: media area, official area and athlete area.
The project is located within the boundaries of Chishan Park, with the Wu River flowing through and surrounded by mountains in the distance. In this place where mountains and waters meet, nature and humanities meet, ancient and future meet.
Therefore, the essence of the project is how to write the essence of oriental culture, while using contemporary design techniques to describe the spirit of modern cities.
The project takes the essence of Jiangnan gardening, condenses the oriental architectural charm, and plans to erect the three areas of the media area, the official area and the athletes' apartment area around the water, presenting a traditional gardening space pattern.
The architectural shape is low-key and restrained, and the color is warm and the texture is simple. It intervenes in the hilly landscape of Chishan Park in a creeping posture, and integrates into the large landscape pattern under the cover of nature.
In terms of construction, conventional materials and low-key processes are selected, and the materials, texture, color, etc. of roofs, walls, ceilings, etc. are explored in various aspects to ensure that the best results are achieved under limited cost and construction period.
The one-time construction is in place before the competition, and the simple indoor function conversion is carried out after the competition, which can be fully opened to the citizens as urban infrastructure, and integrated with Chishan Park into an urban public complex integrating leisure, sports, conference affairs and reception.

Hangzhou E-sports Center, China
The highest specification esports hall
The Hangzhou Esports Center in China, which hosts e-sports competitions, is the first venue in China to meet the official e-sports competition standards of the Asian Games.
E-sports center, also known as "interstellar battleship", the architect based on the "interstellar vortex" design concept, the periphery of the building adopts a large number of free curve design, the surrounding three main walking paths to the venue are like "interstellar vortex", rotating around the core to rise, forming the main body of the building, like stars in the universe.
The internal structure of the venue constructs logic based on natural laws, explores the potential of human beings to create beauty with technical ability, and shows the beauty of logic that technical rationality can present.

Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center gymnasium and swimming pool
The most "magical" venue
The main gymnasium of Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center is designed with reference to the venues of international basketball competitions, and the basketball competition of the Asian Games will be held here, and the swimming pool connected to it will hold Asian Games swimming, diving and other competitions.
The design concept of the double pavilion in one, the unique streamlined shape, combined with the double-layer full coverage of the silver-white metal roof, during the day, the sunlight will penetrate the fine "roof mesh shell", and "draw" endless patterns on the ground. The biggest highlight of the gymnasium is that it only takes 6~8 hours to realize the conversion of basketball court to ice hockey rink.
More than 20,000 steel components wrapped in the venue have "ID cards", and "exclusive QR codes" are generated through BIM technology, which can obtain weight, specifications, models and other information after reading, and all staff can use them to achieve collaborative operations, thereby improving work efficiency.

Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center
The most striking "Great Lotus"
Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center is a comprehensive building integrating Olympic sports, entertainment and lifestyle, located in the riverside area of the city.
The design of the 80,000-person main stadium is inspired by the lotus flowers commonly found in Hangzhou's World Heritage-listed West Lake.
The lotus concept is interpreted as 56 modular petal-like structures, which combine in succession to elegantly envelop the entire main stadium to form the façade and roof.
Externally, the concept of landscape design draws inspiration from the geometry of adjacent river deltas, using flowing landscape forms as the main form for organizing sites, defining circulation and gathering activities.
Two project principles were established from the outset to drive the design of the project: the main facility would be thematically linked to the landscape of Hangzhou through a powerful and unique physical language.
The municipal government hopes that this project will become a comprehensive urban riverside facility that integrates Olympic sports, entertainment and lifestyle. The project not only considers elite sports and community activities, but also a key development goal of community and recreation hub.
