China's first drug 3D printer and the smallest fully automatic multi-virus detection equipment were unveiled at the Industry Fair

Have you heard of pharmaceutical 3D printing? At the 23rd China International Industry Fair, which opened today, the "Intelligent Intestinal Targeted Drug Delivery 3D Printing System" developed by the affiliated institutions of the Yangtze River Delta National Technology Innovation Center was first launched in the Innovation Science and Technology Museum, providing a new technical path for the development of drug tablets. The "Xiaoqinggeng" automatic nucleic acid detection platform developed by Zhijiang Biotechnology was also unveiled in the Innovation Science and Technology Museum, which can not only detect new coronavirus, but also be used for early screening of cervical cancer, influenza A and B, monkeypox virus and other pathogen detection projects.

The reporter saw at the launch ceremony that the "intelligent intestinal targeted drug delivery 3D printing system" is shaped like a vertical refrigerator, with a display embedded in the shell, and multiple printing nozzles can be seen after opening the "refrigerator door". Dr. Quan Danyi, director of the Institute of New Pharmaceutical Preparation Technology of the Yangtze River Delta National Innovation Center, held a light orange capsule in his hand and showed the product printed by this device.

Dr. Quan Danyi shows the light orange capsule printed with a 3D printing system.

Unlike ordinary drug capsules, the surface of this capsule is not very smooth, textured, and its three-dimensional structure is composed of nearly 10 layers of polymer material, each layer is micron-thick. It can control the targeted release of drugs in the gastrointestinal tract and achieve targeted and precise delivery of drugs, thereby greatly improving the clinical efficacy of drugs, reducing side effects and improving patient compliance.

Quan Danyi told reporters that high-end preparations such as 3D printing capsules, transdermal patches, and fundus implants can improve the clinical efficacy of drugs and add new indications for old drugs. Taking aspirin as an example, low-dose aspirin "new drugs" made with high-end preparation technology have achieved good clinical results in heart disease prevention.

In order to improve the scientific and technological level of high-end preparations in mainland China, in 2018, the Institute of New Drug Preparation Technology of Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute was established in Nanjing. In 2021, after the inauguration of the Yangtze River Delta National Innovation Center in Shanghai, this institute belongs to the Yangtze River Delta National Innovation Center and will locate the R&D center in Shanghai.

The "intelligent intestinal targeted drug delivery 3D printing system" is the result of the institute's independent research and development in the past two years. It breaks through the limitations of traditional hot melt 3D printing technology and develops low-temperature 3D printing functions for biomedical characteristics, and the lowest temperature can reach minus 5 degrees Celsius. "This is the world's first 3D printer for enteral targeted drug delivery." Quan Danyi said, "In 2015, the world's first 3D printer for pharmaceutical tablets was launched in the United States, which is a powder drug, and we realized liquid filling. ”

After communicating with a number of hospitals in Shanghai, the institute plans to apply this device to the treatment of intestinal flora first. At present, many patients undergoing tumor chemotherapy, transplantation and autistic children need intestinal flora treatment, and the traditional technology is to freeze-dry live bacteria into capsules, which are not very active. After adopting the "3D printing capsule + live bacteria liquid filling" technical solution, it is expected to significantly improve the activity of intestinal flora, and control the release of live bacteria liquid in the gastrointestinal area, so that this therapy can achieve better clinical efficacy.

The "Xiaoqinggeng" automatic nucleic acid detection platform developed by Shanghai Enterprise Zhijiang Biotechnology is also a heavyweight medical equipment at this year's Industry Fair. It is the smallest fully automatic "magnetic bead method + fluorescent PCR (polymerase chain reaction)" nucleic acid detection system in China, a single device is only 45 kg, the volume is similar to that of a TV, can be placed on the table, suitable for places with limited space.

The word "Qinggeng" comes from the "Classic of Mountains and Seas": "There are birds, their shape is like a magpie, their green body and white beak, white eyes and white tails, the name is Qinggeng, which can ward off the epidemic." "As a fully automatic Class III medical device, it can automatically complete the whole process of nucleic acid detection such as sample tube opening and closing caps, pipetting pretreatment, nano-magnetic bead nucleic acid extraction, PCR system construction, fluorescent PCR amplification, etc., so as to achieve unattended.

"This is a versatile device that can detect not only the new coronavirus, but also a variety of pathogens such as HPV (human papillomavirus), influenza A and B virus, and monkeypox virus." The staff of the exhibition area told reporters that "Xiaoqinggeng" can complete the test of 48 tubes of samples within 2 hours and send the test report to the relevant medical institutions.

In the Zhijiang Biological Exhibition Area, HPV self-sampling products designed for women also attracted many visitors. Users can follow the sampling guidance video for self-sampling, and then put the cervical cancer brush into a sealed bag and send it to the testing institution within 48 hours to receive the test report. In this way, users do not have to go to the hospital for testing, which can save a lot of time.
