Border Tour: Running Out of Oil
The story begins on a cold winter day, when Lu Ge and Sister Zheng drive their 6-year-old grandson from Manchuria in their car, ready to cross the Sino-Russian border and explore unknown nature. His destination was Baiji Village in Heilongjiang, a small village at the northernmost tip of the border, surrounded by the Daxing'an Mountains.
Along the way, they passed through the Hulunbuir steppe, along the Genhe River, and through Genhe City to Baiji Village in Mohe, a journey of nearly 1,200 kilometers. He drove along the G332 highway, enjoying the scenery along the way. However, he didn't realize that there were very few gas stations on the route.
When they drove past Hulunbuir, he did not care about the problem of refueling. He thought that there would be gas stations along the way, so he did not fill up in Hulunbuir. However, when he was nearly 150 kilometers away from Genhe City, the red light of the car's fuel tank lit up, alerting him that he was running out of fuel.
Lu Ge's heart tightened, and he realized that he had made a big mistake. He stopped the car and turned on the navigation, hoping to find the nearest gas station. However, his hopes were dashed and navigation revealed that there were no gas stations within 150 kilometers of the vicinity.
Lu Ge drove cautiously, staring ahead, hoping to see the forest workers patrolling the mountains or the patrolling troop vehicles, had to stop by the root river to rest for a while, fortunately met an old man on a motorcycle, was stopped by Lu Ge, the old man led them to find a village, Lu Ge decided to go to some local residents for help first. He went into the village and found a small shop, hoping for some guidance. The owner told him that there were gas stations in Genhe City.
Rugo felt desperate, he didn't know what to do. His car ran out of oil and he couldn't keep going. However, he did not give up and decided to find other solutions.
He asked some locals and learned that there was a farm nearby and they might have some spare gasoline. Rugo immediately drove to the farm, hoping to get help.
When he arrived at the farm, the gas was exhausted and he couldn't move, just as they met a friendly farm employee. He explained his situation to his eldest brother and hoped to buy some gas. The Northeast brother enthusiastically agreed to his request and brought them some enough gas to run to Genhe City. Brother Lu took out 3 times the gas money to give to the eldest brother, the eldest brother did get into their car, to take them to find food and shelter, about a few kilometers on the forest trail, came to a simple dining place, just parked the car, heard someone shouting "the field chief come to eat", "grandpa, grandpa" A little girl about 4 years old ran over, hmm! They met Captain Li of this forest farm.
Lu Ge thanked Director Li gratefully, allowing their car to regain power, helping to find food and shelter, and allowing them to continue to move forward.
The next day, Lugo they drove carefully along the way. After coming to Genhe City, after filling up the fuel tank, I smoothly crossed the no-man's land of Daxing'anling, passed through Mohe, and finally reached Baiji Village.
When he drove into Baiji Village, he was struck by the scenery in front of him. The land is covered with snow and ice, like a kingdom of ice and snow. He stopped the car and got out of it, feeling the cold air. He knew that the hardships and difficulties of the trip were worth it.
Lu Ge stopped at Baiji Village for a while, where he interacted with the local residents and learned about their life and culture. Moved by the tenacity and courage of the people here, he decided to write these stories into a book so that more people can understand the land and its people. "Northeasterners are really straight"!
