China's most terrifying border line, soldiers have to fight against hundreds of thousands of "troops" every day, and several military dogs have died!
The border defense line between the mainland and Kazakhstan is located on the Irtysh River in the western part of Xinjiang's Habahe County, where mainland border fighters are stationed, and everyone calls it the Beiwan Defense Area.
The Beiwan Defense Area is one of the most dangerous defense areas on the Chinese border, where several military dogs have been sacrificed that were bitten alive by mosquitoes while patrolling, and the Beiwan Defense Area is one of the four mosquito kingdoms on the planet, where more than 100 mosquitoes can be killed with a single slap.
The North Bay Defense Area used to be settled by herders, and then they all moved out of here, why? Because in the mosquito breeding season, a large number of female mosquitoes need to suck blood, these female mosquitoes can't bite people, they go to harm livestock, cattle and sheep are bitten crazy, once a herdsman's sheep was stung can not stand the bite directly hit the wall and died, slowly only border fighters are left here.
Every time the border guards patrol, they must be fully armed, wear thick uniforms, and check the trouser legs, cuffs, and neckline before departure, and there must be no gaps. If there is a leak, then the patrol comes back once and these places are all bags. You should also wear a mosquito cover on your head, otherwise you will swell into a pig's head if you go outside, and you will be bitten to shock.
This place in Central Asia has a hot summer climate, and when patrolling, they have to wear thick mosquito clothing, and many soldiers are soaked with sweat when they go out for a walk, and heat stroke often occurs.
In order to prevent mosquitoes, the local PLA has thought of many methods, and as soon as military researchers develop new mosquito protection clothing, they will send them to the Beiwan Defense Area for experiments.
In addition to mosquito clothing, border fighters here like to use flower water, solid cooling oil and mosquito powder, which can reduce mosquito infestation. Solid cooling oil and mosquito powder are better, and flower water is easy to evaporate in hot climates.
People have all kinds of mosquito protection means, dogs are not so lucky.
Border guards often carry military dogs on a lead when patrolling the border, which prevents people from being missed. Military dogs are really guilty in the North Bay Defense Zone, and they have no hands to scratch. Military dogs are most vulnerable to mosquito attacks on the head, without a protective mask, their nose, eyes, tongue will crawl with mosquitoes, that is because the rest of the military dog has fur to block, mosquitoes are difficult to bite. There are several graves near the PLA garrison in the Beiwan border defense area, where military dogs killed by mosquito bites are buried.
Why are there so many mosquitoes in the North Bay Defense Zone?
There is a river near the Beiwan Defense Area, called the Irtysh River, which has a large amount of water and many tributaries in the northern Xinjiang region of the mainland, and the Beiwan Defense Area is located near the mouth of the river it flows out of China. Normally, living water does not breed mosquitoes, but near the river there is a huge swamp from which the water is replenished by the Irtysh River. When the river reaches the swamp, it becomes stagnant, and mosquitoes breed here.
This is simply a paradise for mosquitoes, there are no natural enemies such as dragonflies and toads, the temperature and humidity are suitable for mosquitoes, and most importantly, the stagnant water here can provide mosquitoes with a spawning ground.
A female mosquito can lay 60~300 eggs at a time, and these eggs hatch into larvae (jié) and jué in stagnant water. They feed on bacteria and blue-green algae in the water, and it only takes more than a week to get out of the water and grow wings, after which they can mate. In the vicinity of the North Bay Defense Area, there are not only large swamps, but also dense jungles that provide shelter for mosquitoes.
Because there are a large number of water sources and vegetation here, wild animals like to drink water and eat grass here, which brings blood to mosquitoes in the North Bay Defense Area, and the living environment is too superior, and a female mosquito can breed a kingdom.
When the soldiers of the North Bay Defense Area sleep, they will light fluorescent lamps that attract mosquitoes, and it only takes one night to catch a kilogram of mosquitoes with mosquito killing lamps, and the mosquito corpses in several mosquito killing lamps can fill a washbasin.
With so many mosquitoes, how can they be eliminated?
Experts have come up with a way to breed the main mosquito species in the North Bay Defense Area, breeding a total of millions of them, and then releasing these mosquitoes back into the wild. This looks a bit outrageous, originally there are many mosquitoes in the North Bay Defense Area, how can experts still cultivate mosquitoes?
In fact, the mosquitoes released by experts are all male, and before they are released into the wild, they are infected with a species called Wolbachia, and after infection with this bacteria, the male mosquitoes are infertile, so that these male mosquitoes and female mosquitoes mate, and the eggs laid cannot hatch.
This method seems to be wonderful, but unfortunately the female mosquito does not buy it. Male mosquitoes infected with Wolbachia look malaise, and female mosquitoes usually do not like to mate with them, preferring lean male mosquitoes. At this time, scientists miscalculated, and the number of mosquitoes in the North Bay Defense Area is still very large.
This year, Sun Yat-sen University in mainland China has developed a physically castrated mosquito on the idea of Wolbachia infection with male mosquitoes, and the male mosquitoes created by nuclear radiation are more vigorous, much better than biological castration, and female mosquitoes also like to mate with them. At present, the Sun Yat-sen University mosquito factory can produce 360 million such mosquitoes a year. It is hoped that this technology can be used in the North Bay Defense Area to make border fighters and military dogs suffer less crime.
