Ubisoft Software has made it easier to modify the game by allowing a group of modders to modify Might and Magic Dark Messiah using a code-based SDK. The modding community has been working hard to increase support for ray tracing and develop a co-op model for the game, with more mods expected since Ubisoft has already approved the project. The release of the SDK could rekindle interest in Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and increase its avid following, potentially bringing new life to the game.
A group of modders have licensed Ubisoft software to restore Might & Magic: Dark Messiah using code-based software development kits (SDKs) to modify the game.
A team of modelers led by David Wiltos are now allowed to make Might and Magic: Dark Messiah using a code-based SDK that will greatly simplify the modeling process for action RPGs. After two years of negotiations, Ubisoft Software gave full approval to modify the exact content of the SDK version, allowing its developers to release whatever they saw fit. In a recent update released to Mod DB, Wiltos said his team will act on the approval "as soon as possible," having rolled out a limited toolkit that allows enthusiasts to implement ray tracing support into Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.
The software is based on Nvidia's RTX Mixing Kit, which means that any mod created with it will only work on contemporary GeForce GPUs that offer ray tracing support. This was actually their initial goal, and interest led them to expand to a fully functional modding SDK.
With official Ubisoft support for the project, the promise of an upcoming SDK will bring huge benefits to the game's modifications. New mod development to add new vitality to Might & Magic: Dark Messiah.
