Today, PetroChina announced that the first 10,000-meter exploration well in mainland China, the deep Taco 1 well, was drilled to a depth of more than half, and the design depth of the deep Taco 1 well was 11,100 meters, and the drilling has reached a depth of 5,856 meters.

The Deep Ground Taco 1 Well is located in the heart of the Taklamakan Desert, which is known as the "Forbidden Zone of Life", where oil workers overcome the scorching heat and sand, high temperature and high pressure underground to ensure the safe and efficient drilling of this well.

Since the start of drilling, the well site has experienced more than 30 days of high temperature weather of more than 40 degrees, drilling is continuous operation, no matter how high the temperature can not stop, under the desert sun, employees race against time.

Zou Zongping, mud worker of Taco 1 well in the Tarim Oilfield of PetroChina: The clothes inside are all soaked, and about 200 bags of mud materials have been added in the morning.

On the mud platform, the temperature of the mud returning from the depths of the formation is close to 80 degrees, the hot air in front of the workers and masters, the scorching sun behind them, and the flowing high-temperature mud under their feet, the work is like a sauna.

Jiang Tao: The rock chips it punched out came back from more than 5,000 meters, and the temperature on the sieve was basically more than 100 degrees Celsius, 70 or 80 degrees Celsius, for example, the steam we saw was brought up from the ground.

In a high temperature environment, it not only tests the will of the staff, but also tests the safe operation of the equipment, and the equipment works at high temperature for a long time, and it needs to be cooled and maintained at all times.

Wang Yuxiang: Due to the high pump pressure and high temperature, the metal is fatigued and cannot be moved.

In addition to the test of high temperature, there is also wind and sand invasion. The Taklamakan Desert is the most prone desert on the mainland because of its extremely fine sand grains, and since the well was drilled for more than two months, there has been strong sand and dust every afternoon.

Ma Baocai, on-site worker of Tarim Oilfield, PetroChina: It is windy and sand every day, especially big, when it blows wind and sand, it is a little better than direct sun, cooler, no wind and sand, and the heat is unbearable.

At present, the deep Taco 1 well has been drilled to a depth of 5,856 meters, and oil workers will spend a year in the desert to complete the remaining half of the operation.

More than 8,000 meters of ultra-deep wells were drilled in the Tarim Oilfield

In recent years, 60% of the world's new oil and gas reserves come from the deep bottom, and the exploration potential is huge, and deep and even ultra-deep oil and gas resources have become an important part of the mainland's energy structure. PetroChina's Tarim Oilfield, where the first 10,000-meter-deep well in the mainland is located, has drilled 104 ultra-deep wells above 8,000 meters, and ultra-deep drilling has strongly supported the increase of oil and gas reserves and production.

The depth of the drilling well of the 1 well in Tarim Oilfield exceeded 9,000 meters a few days ago, and the vertical depth reached 8,661 meters, becoming the 32nd ultra-deep well drilled in Tarim Oilfield this year with a depth of more than 8,000 meters.

Yan Jianye, head of the oil and gas field capacity construction division of PetroChina's Tarim Oilfield: In the past two years, we have fully entered ultra-deep formations, in 2022, we drilled 37 wells with a depth of 8,000 meters, and this year it is expected that more than 50 wells will be drilled 8,000 meters deep, and the average depth of 8,000-meter deep wells that have been completed is 8,282 meters.

Ultra-deep well is drilling depth of more than 6,000 meters of drilling, in the past two years, more than 90% of the new oil and gas reserves in Tarim Oilfield are obtained by drilling ultra-deep wells, the annual output of ultra-deep well oil and gas in Tarim Oilfield has exceeded 18 million tons, accounting for more than half of the total output of the oilfield, ultra-deep well has become an important support for increasing reserves and production.

Liu Jinlong, Engineer, Tarim Oilfield Exploration Division of PetroChina: It took 10 years to drill the Tarim Oilfield from a completion depth of 4,500 meters to 6,000 meters, and it took 17 years from a completion depth of 7,000 meters to 9,000 meters, while the deep Tacum 1 well will take 373 days from the current depth of 6,000 meters to 10,000 meters, which will also be the world's fastest drilling time record for 10,000 meters deep well.

More than one-third of the known oil and gas resources on the mainland are distributed in 4,500 meters underground, and the Tarim Basin and the Sichuan Basin are the two richest deep oil and gas basins on the mainland, and more than eighty percent of the oil in the Tarim Basin is buried in ultra-deep strata below 6,000 meters.
