Kunming, 20 Aug (Xinhua) -- The Seventh China-South Asia Expo is being held in Kunming, Yunnan. At the exhibition site, Huang Yulong, a Lao student from Yunnan University, was busy shooting videos to display Lao characteristic exhibits, hoping that more people would learn about her motherland through the South Expo.

"The products exhibited in Laos include beer, coffee, rice, etc." Huang Yulong, from Vientiane, Laos, introduced the audience with a fluent Chinese and a big smile on his face. Coming to Yunnan to study, she not only learned knowledge, but also made many Chinese friends, becoming a witness of the deepening of Sino-Laos friendship.

Participants believed that through a series of measures such as the China-South Asia Expo, economic, social and people-to-people exchanges between China and South and Southeast Asian countries have become increasingly deep.

In recent years, Yunnan has focused on implementing a "more active, more open and more effective" talent policy, promoting "targeted intellectual introduction", attracting and gathering a group of talents from South and Southeast Asian countries, and providing them with better conditions for studying and starting businesses in Yunnan.

In a lab at Kunming University of Science and Technology, Zhu Karen, a Pakistani professor, is intently experimenting. The Pakistani youth not only realized his scientific dream in China, but also married a Chinese daughter-in-law.

Zhu Kelun's relationship with China began in 2012, when he came to Kunming University of Science and Technology to pursue a doctorate and returned to China after graduation. In 2020, he returned to Kunming University of Science and Technology and has since been engaged in teaching and research in the School of Life Science and Technology, focusing on virology and bacteriology.

Zhu Kelun said Yunnan has given him a lot of scientific support. He has published dozens of research papers in international journals and has trained many students. "The Chinese students are very polite, very hardworking, and have a lot of respect for the teachers, and I like them a lot."

The person in charge of the Science and Technology Talent and Science Popularization Department of Yunnan Provincial Department of Science and Technology introduced that in recent years, Yunnan has issued a number of policies such as the "Xingyun Talent Support Program" high-end foreign expert special project and provincial foreign expert project, and actively introduced foreign high-level talents, including South and Southeast Asian countries.

After completing his doctoral degree and postdoctoral research in Kunming University of Science and Technology, Lê Thi Qiong Chun from Vietnam became an associate professor at the School of Metallurgical and Energy Engineering of Kunming University of Science and Technology in 2020, engaged in international frontier research in special field metallurgy such as ultrasound and microwave.

Li Thi Qiongchun said that in recent years, Yunnan has continuously improved its foreign talent management policies, increased incentives for foreign talents, and promoted international scientific and technological innovation cooperation to a new level.

In the "two-way rush", people-to-people exchanges between China and South and Southeast Asian countries have become deeper and deeper. The 15 non-lingua franca majors in South and Southeast Asian countries opened by Yunnan Province have trained tens of thousands of relevant talents, and continue to build the brand of "Study in China, Study in Yunnan", and have trained 139,000 international students, providing talent support for promoting the construction of radiation centers for South Asia and Southeast Asia. Yunnan University also led the establishment of the South Asian and Southeast Asian University Alliance with 75 universities in South and Southeast Asian countries.
