I have been studying the butterfly ecological resources of Ningbo for 30 years. This year, two heavyweight butterfly species were discovered, namely the dead-leaved butterfly and the beautiful phoenix butterfly, bringing the total number of butterflies in Ningbo to 209 species. I thought it would be a harvest year for butterflies, and there would be no new species to discover. Unexpectedly, near the end of the butterfly season, another important species appeared, which is the newly recorded butterfly in Zhejiang Province- the off-spotted butterfly.

Recently, I went to the city's Xiang Gable Head Town to investigate, and I wanted to track the occurrence of the thick eye spotted mantis 3 years ago. I searched carefully among the flowers of the bad sauce grass, because the last time I found a thick eye spotted mantis on the white flowers of the bad sauce hunting insects.

This time, I saw a lot of butterflies and bees picking flowers, but I never saw the figure of the thick-skinned mantis. Suddenly, I saw a strange butterfly flying into the flowers to collect honey, and I immediately swung the net quickly. Due to excessive force, the butterfly fell into the net, but the edge of the hindwing was slightly damaged.

For each emerging species, specimens must be collected, which is the most direct evidence for identification and future comparative studies. In the wild, it is often a blessing to be able to see new types of figures with your own eyes, and it is even more rare to be able to take ecological photos. If you can get the specimen, it can be called a miracle. So I pushed hard, afraid it would be frightened and escape.

After collecting the specimen, I found that this butterfly is really a species I have never seen before, and it is naturally the 210th butterfly in Ningbo! The identification results are even more unexpected, "Zhejiang Butterfly Chronicle" can not find this butterfly, in the "Chinese Butterfly Chronicle" is included, is the butterfly with butterflies in the family Butterfly with butterflies, its distribution is south China and southwest provinces, Zhejiang Province is not in its distribution area. This shows that the spotted butterfly is a new record species in Zhejiang Province, and naturally it is also a new record species in Ningbo, which is of extraordinary significance!
Almost all of the butterfly species I have found are the first discoveries in Ningbo City, and it is very rare to add a record of the first discovery in the province, which is extremely exciting.

Because this butterfly has three distinct white bands on the front, it is classified as a species of the genus Butterfly, and the spots of its white midband are separated from each other by the black wing veins, giving it the name of the off-banded butterfly.
Judging from the appearance of the specimen, in addition to the damage during the capture process, it is almost a new and complete wing surface, which can rule out the possibility of migrating from other places. That is to say, this specimen should be a native butterfly individual, but their population is small and rare to see.

Judging from the sex of the specimen, the abdomen of the body is relatively short and is a female individual. According to the newly published "Illustrated Catalogue of the Life History of Butterflies in China", the host plant of its larvae is the leaves of the osmanthus tree, which is fully suitable for the growth of the population of the butterfly with the butterfly. At the same time, it shows that the ecological advantages of Xiangshan County are also very significant.

The specimen's midband is particularly pronounced, with spots almost in a line, which contrasts with the characteristics of the off-banded butterfly.
