In October 1938, the Qiongya Anti-Japanese Front was officially formed. In December of the same year, the Qiongya Workers' and Peasants' Guerrilla Group was reorganized into the 14th Independent Brigade of the Guangdong People's Anti-Japanese Self-Defense Regiment, and Wu Kezhi served as the leader of the 3rd Squadron of the Independent Brigade. Soon, the Yunlong Market Adaptation Conference was held. Wang Yi, commander of the Qiongya garrison, and Yang Yongren, commander of the division, attended the meeting and presented Wu Kezhi with the flag.

Wu Kezhi led the team and appeared neatly on the field, winning the admiring eyes of the participants. Wang Yi was impressed by the momentum of this team, and quickly asked the staff around him: "Who is the commander of that team just now?" The staff member replied: "His name is Wu Kezhi, and he graduated from Yantang Military Academy." Wang Yi sighed, "It is rare that there are such talents in the guerrillas!" ”

During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Qiongya Column had only 7,000 or 8,000 men. By the time of the Liberation War, it had expanded to more than 20,000 people, and Wu Kezhi was recognized as a general who was a constant victor. Feng Baiju, commander and political commissar of the column, trusted Wu Kezhi very much and would entrust him with heavy responsibilities whenever war broke out.

No matter how big the scale of the war, Wu Kezhi would personally go to the scene to conduct reconnaissance before the war, and then analyze various possible situations to improve the combat deployment as much as possible. As long as the enemy army showed a slight flaw, Wu Kezhi could immediately seize the opportunity and attack with thunder. In Wu Kezhi's military career, his most proud battle was the battle of virtue.

In July 1941, Wu Kezhi led the first and second detachments to prepare for ambush and reinforcements, eliminating the German and American Japanese strongholds that penetrated deep into our base area. The village is located in Wenchang County, where the Japanese army stationed a squadron with light and heavy machine guns and other weapons. In addition to the village of Meide, the Japanese army also set up a stronghold on the slope of Tanniu and the rough slope, and the distance between them was about seven kilometers, forming a horn for each other.

Wu Kezhi led people to the front line to reconnoiter, and after finding out the law of japanese activities, he planned to divide the troops into three ways to ambush. Strike one stronghold first, and then ambush enemy reinforcements from other strongholds. Wu Kezhi immediately ambushed the first and second teams of the first detachment on the high ground next to the road leading to the rough slope of the village of Meide, and ambushed the Japanese troops on the rough slope. The third team of the first detachment was ambushed near the village of Meide, and the second detachment was ambushed in the Area of Tanniu.

Everything was deployed, but the situation suddenly changed. In the morning, when the Japanese troops on the Tanniu side were driving towards the village of Virtue, they found that the situation was not right on the way, and they became suspicious, so they launched a search nearby. The Japanese army approached all the way, and happened to come to the back of the second detachment. The Japanese immediately opened fire, and the second detachment rushed to meet the battle.

As soon as the fight broke out on this side, the Japanese troops in the village of Virtue immediately rushed to reinforcements, and the second detachment fell into a situation of being attacked from the belly and back. In the face of the mutation, Wu Kezhi immediately changed the original plan, dividing the first detachment into three roads, one to defend the Japanese army on the slope, all the way to block the enemy troops on the Tanniu side, and personally led the remaining ones to meet the enemy troops on the virtue side.

Soon after, our reinforcements, together with the second detachment, repelled the Japanese on the Tanniu side. At the same time, Wu Kezhi's troops had just arrived at the highlands of Kengwei Village, and the Japanese troops of germany and Germany had also arrived, and a battle for the highlands began. In the rain of bullets, Wu Kezhi's wife Huang Mei was unfortunately shot. Wu Kezhi held his wife aside, endured the grief in his heart, and led his troops to fight back against the enemy.

The Japanese army was beaten all the way to the low-lying area by our side, and Wu Kezhi immediately divided a force behind the enemy and attacked back and forth, asking the Japanese army to have no return. The Japanese fell into an unfavorable situation and then fled in the direction of the village of Virtue. When they fled to the halfway point, they were completely annihilated by the ambush troops left here by our army.

After the first and second detachments defeated the enemy army, they immediately joined forces and surrounded the Tanniu Japanese army. Most of the Tanniu Japanese army was annihilated by our side, and after the Japanese troops from the rough slope were ambushed, they also withdrew, and the battle ended here.

The Battle of Meide Village was a major victory in the history of Hainan's anti-Japanese resistance. This battle dealt a blow to the arrogance of the Japanese army and boosted the morale of the anti-Japanese soldiers and civilians in Hainan. After the Japanese troops in the German and American areas suffered this blow, they quickly withdrew, and the threat of the Qiongwen base was eliminated.

In the Battle of Liberating Hainan, Wu Kezhi led his troops to repel the enemy many times and received field troops to cross the sea for reconnaissance. On April 10, 1950, after Feng Baiju received the information that the Fifteenth Corps had crossed the sea and landed, he immediately consulted with Wu Kezhi to receive the deployment. Wu Kezhi led the troops to cooperate with the field army to cross the sea and land, and the landing points and breakthrough points of the field army were all arranged by Wu Kezhi.

On April 16, our army crossed the sea on a large scale and landed, liberating Yulin in the next half a month. There were more than 30,000 remnants of chiang kai-shek fleeing from Hainan to Baodao, and the remaining Chiang's troops were all annihilated by Wu Kezhi. So far, Hainan Island has been liberated.

Qiongya military and civilian isolated island fought for a full 23 years, and finally won! Later, Wu Kezhi served as the deputy director of the Anti-Chemical Department of the General Staff and made special contributions to his new post.
