Snake rice is also known as wild fennel, cnidium monnieri, cnidium monnieri, snake beads, wild radish seeds, etc., its scientific name should be called cnidium monnieri.

Snake rice is a perennial herb of the family Umbellifera. This plant has more stems, all stems are born from rhizomes, the highest stem is up to about 60 cm high, its stem is quadrangular, the stem has a shallow groove, generally purple-red, the stem has a very dense white flat bristle, the lower part of the stem bristles are relatively sparse, and the internodes of the stem are much longer than the leaves.

The leaves of snake rice are triangular oval, the leaves are about 1.2–2 cm long and about 1–1.7 cm wide, the apex of the leaves is blunt or sharply pointed, the base of the leaf is round or nearly shallowly heart-shaped, and the edges of the leaves are round-toothed serrated, olive-green above, and covered with white cilia.

The inflorescence of snake rice is a umbel inflorescence, its flowers are very dense, the flower tip is purple-red, the corolla is pink, the flowers are larger, generally 1.5-2 cm long, the flowering period is generally in July-September, and the fruit period is generally in August-November.

Snake rice is distributed in most parts of China, but the main producing provinces are in Hebei, Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangxi, Sichuan, Shaanxi, Shanxi and other provinces and regions.

According to the measurement, snake rice contains more volatile oil components, in the volatile oil mainly contains pine thin, isoa valerianate dragon brain ester, parsley phenol methyl ether, dihydro eugenol, bergamot lactone, cnidin, isoinces, isosepine, isooprecone, colombian lactone, dipterosterone acetate, limonene, 3-sittanol and other components.

In the past, bull farmers were particularly fond of feeding bulls with snake rice. Before there are any problems with the bull's body, the bull farmer will take 25-30 grams of snake rice grains every 7 days and mash them into the concentrate to feed the bulls, as long as they insist on feeding in this way, the bulls will not appear "obsessed". And once the bull has appeared not "obsessed" phenomenon, the bull farmers will use snake rice grain 35-40 grams mashed and mixed into the concentrate to feed the bull, and, once a day, after 30-40 days of continuous feeding, the bull is not "obsessed" Phenomenon will disappear!
