Ronaldo claimed the day after Messi's appearance in Miami: The Saudi league is better than the MLS!

The day after the unveiling ceremony for Lionel Messi at the US professional football league side Inter Miami, Portuguese supergiant Cristiano Ronaldo made a statement claiming that "the Saudi Pro League is better than Major League Soccer".

The Argentine appeared on stage yesterday with co-owner David Beckham and was given his number ten shirt at the new club, where he announced earlier this summer that he would join the Florida-based club under a £45 million a year contract.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, was one of the first big names to move to Saudi Arabia, joining Nasser on a contract of up to £175 million a year after leaving Manchester United last season.

This summer window, many football stars have also chosen to come to the Middle Eastern country, including Karim Benzema, Kante and Ruben Neves.

While Ronaldo recently confirmed that he will remain in Saudi Arabia next season, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has also been linked with a return to Europe and his former team, Real Madrid.

The former Manchester striker also claimed that "European football has lost a lot of quality".

However, after Monday's pre-season friendly beaten 5-0 by Celta Vigo, Ronaldo made a candid and honest assessment of his future, claiming he would not go to the United States or Europe, while also taking responsibility for the influx of players into the Middle East.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Saudi league is better than Major League Soccer.

"I'm 100 per cent sure I'm not going back to any European club. I opened the way to the Saudi League and now all the players are here.

"I'm not going back to European football, the doors are completely closed," he added.

"I'm 38 years old and European football has lost a lot of quality. For me, the only league that is of high quality and at a higher level than all the other leagues is the Premier League.

"The Spanish league is not so good. The Portuguese league is a good league, but it is not a top league. I think the German league also lost a lot. I'm sure I'm not going to play in Europe again. I want to play in Saudi Arabia.

His team, Al-Nasser, were beaten by league rivals Al-Ittihad last season to win the Saudi Pro League but were banned from signing new players by FIFA last week for failing to pay a £3.9 million surcharge for former Leicester City player Ahmed Moussa.

Despite this, the club has recently been linked with a number of high-profile figures, including Hakim Ziyech, while also signing Marcelo Brozovic ahead of the ban in early July.

"In a year's time, more and more top players will come to Saudi Arabia," the Portuguese superstar continued. "In a year, the Saudi league will overtake the Turkish league and the Dutch league.

"The players who come here are not what the EU president said. Jota and Neves are both young players.

Despite much speculation about his future, Ronaldo appears to have confirmed that he will remain at Al-Nasser for the foreseeable future.

Son Heung-min is the latest player to reveal that he has been invited to join the Saudi Pro League team.

While Manchester City on Monday rejected Al-Ahli's £18m bid for Leyard Mahrez.

Asked if he would move to Major League Soccer, Ronaldo added: "I think the Saudi league is much better than the United States. My team is Al-Nassr.

'100%。 It's a fact," Ronaldo said. "It takes a year, but that's six months. I missed six months.

"Wherever Cristiano goes, there will be greater interest and I know that's going to be the case. I'm sure there will be more stars going there next season (Saudi Arabia).
