According to comments made by the Russian leader to Kommersant, Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed to fighters of the Wagner group that a high-ranking mercenary named Andrei Troshev command the private military group.

Since the failure of the uprising last month, Putin appears to have created a split between the top fighters of the Wagner mercenary group and its leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin — at least according to the narrative drawn from his commentary on Kommersant.

Five days after the failed Wagner rebellion, the Russian president convened a meeting at the end of June, attended by Prigozhin and dozens of senior Wagner fighters.

At the meeting, Putin told dozens of Wagner mercenaries that he was given multiple employment options, one of which was that they could continue to fight under the command of a direct commander, whose call sign was "Sedoy," which means "gray hair," according to Kommersant.

"They could have gathered and continued to serve, but nothing will change for them," Putin said. They will continue to be led by the same person who has always been their real commander. ”

"And what happened then?" In response to Putin, a Kommersant reporter asked questions. "When I say that, a lot of people nod." Putin replied.
