Following a £105 million move to Arsenal, Fernandes will join an exclusive club

Coutinho and Felix did not play a role, and Fernandez was inconclusive

When Declan Rice confirmed his move to Arsenal, he would join an exclusive club. In fact, there are only seven people in this club.

The England defensive midfielder and West Ham captain is on the verge of a £105 million move to the Gunners.

That would make him one of only eight footballers in history to have a transfer fee of more than £100 million.

Jack Grealish, Philippe Coutinho and Enzo Fernandez are three superstars who earn a who's in the ninth figure and have varying degrees of success.

Below, the Daily Mail assesses the performance of other £100 million players for the club after huge expenditures.

7. Jack Grealish - £100 million, Aston Villa moves to Manchester City

Jack Grealish earned himself the chance to move to champions Manchester City after a few years of outstanding time at childhood club Aston Villa.

Although his first season was inconsistent, if not an outright failure, as he adapted to the strict demands and style of play of head coach Pep Guardiola.

But in the second season of the 2022-23 season, he played 50 games in all competitions and secured the starting line-up ahead of Phil Foden and played all games in the Champions League final to help City secure the treble.

Given that he is only 27 years old, he can be classified as a successful – if not yet completely outright successful.

Conclusion: Success

6. Anthony Griezmann - £107 million, Atletico Madrid moves to Barcelona

Finishing third in the prestigious Ballon d'Or in 2016 (behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi) and 2018 (behind Luca Modric and Ronaldo, respectively) was a huge achievement for the little Frenchman.

Before moving to Spanish giants Barcelona, he made 257 appearances for Atletico Madrid, scoring 133 goals.

Although his goal returns were not great, if not great, with 35 goals in 102 games, he never fully consolidated his exact role or position in the team, playing in a number of different positions, and Barca only won the Copa del Rey during his tenure.

Given his jaw-dropping cost and the club's willingness to arrange for him to return to Atletico in October 2022, the jury is still out on his success at Camp Nou.

Verdict: The jury is out

5. Enzo Fernandez – £107 million, Benfica move to Chelsea

£107 million may seem like a lot of money for Enzo Fernandes, who played just one season in Europe for Benfica when Chelsea bought him – although it is not unusual for the "spendthrift" Chelsea chairman Todd Boley.

Despite this, he has performed well, helping Argentina win the December 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and at just 22 years old, he is clearly a player with great potential.

Although he did not make a splash after his move to Stamford Bridge in January, the club did have some major off-field issues to deal with, and he is one of the only high-paid signings who can play regularly.

He is likely to excel under new manager Mauricio Pochettino and become the heart of the Blues' midfield for the medium to long term.
