What to do if you have heat stroke?
Don't make these mistakes
How can you tell if it's heat stroke?
The onset of heat stroke is sudden, and most patients have prodromal symptoms such as dizziness, dizziness, headache, nausea, chest tightness, and irritability. According to the severity of the disease, heat stroke can generally be divided into three types, namely aura heat stroke, mild heat stroke and severe heat stroke.
Aura heat stroke: manifested as heavy sweating, thirst, dizziness, tinnitus, chest tightness, palpitations, nausea, limb weakness and other symptoms. Body temperature is normal or slightly elevated, usually < 37.5°C.
Mild heat stroke: in addition to the symptoms of aura heat stroke, it is also manifested as body temperature > 38.5 °C, accompanied by flushing, chest tightness, skin burning, paleness, nausea, vomiting, heavy sweating, clammy skin, decreased blood pressure and weak and fast pulse.
Severe heat stroke: according to the symptoms and degree of onset, it can be divided into heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
01. Heat cramps
Presents with muscle pain or convulsions. Usually occurs in the abdomen, arms, or legs, is often symmetrical, sometimes flares and sometimes resolves.
02. Heat exhaustion
Onset is rapid, and symptoms include dizziness, headache, nausea or vomiting, heavy sweating, pallor, extreme weakness or tiredness, muscle cramps, and fainting. People with heat exhaustion may have cold and moist skin, decreased blood pressure, fast and weak pulse, shortness of breath and shallowness, and slightly higher or normal body temperature.
03. Heat stroke
Manifestations include dizziness, throbbing headache, nausea, extremely high body temperature, hot and dry skin, cold intolerance, confusion, slurred speech, and unconsciousness. If left untreated, it can lead to death or disability.
How should heat stroke be treated?
Patients with heat cramps: should stop all activity, sit quietly in a cool place to rest, and drink diluted, refreshing juices or sports drinks. If the patient has a history of heart disease, or if the heat cramps have not subsided after 1 hour, they should call "120" or seek medical attention in time.
Patients with heat exhaustion: Rest immediately, drink cool and non-alcoholic beverages, take a cool shower or wipe your body with cool water if possible, turn on the air conditioner and change into light clothing. In addition, you can take Rendan or Huo Xiang Zhengqi Water.
Patients with heat stroke: there is a threat to life safety, and the following measures should be taken immediately.
01
Do not hesitate to immediately call "120" and at the same time start treatment.
02
Move the patient to a ventilated, cool, dry place such as a hallway, under the shade of a tree.
03
Have the person lie on their back, unbutton, and remove or loosen their clothing. If the clothes are soaked with sweat, dry clothes should be changed to dissipate heat as soon as possible.
04
Every effort should be made to physically cool the patient as soon as possible, such as applying a cool wet towel or ice pack to the head, armpits, and base of the thighs.
If the patient's muscles twitch involuntarily, care should be taken to avoid injuring the patient. If vomiting occurs, the patient may be placed on their side to ensure that their airways are open.
These common practices are wrong
Myth 1: Quickly move to an air-conditioned room with too low a temperature after heat stroke.
After heat stroke, it should be immediately away from the high temperature environment, but it should not be quickly transferred to an air-conditioned room with too low a temperature.
Myth 2: Wipe yourself with super-cold water.
Wipe yourself with cold water, taking care not to be too cold at the beginning. Too cold water can make the skin nerve endings suddenly cold stimulation, causing blood vessels to constrict and not easy to dissipate heat, too cold stimulation may also cause the patient to collapse.
Myth 3: Take antipyretic drugs on your own after heat stroke.
Body temperature may rise after heat stroke, due to thermoregulatory dysfunction, general antipyretic drugs are not effective for this, it is not recommended to take antipyretic drugs on your own.
Myth 4: Eat spicy and stimulating food after the symptoms of heat stroke subside.
After the symptoms of heat stroke subside, the diet should be light and avoid spicy stimulation.
