Official announcement of signing! The Rockets are bringing point guard Aaron Holladay to the 2023 NBA free agent market.
The Rockets have made frequent moves in the 2023 free agent market, especially in the pursuit of guard depth. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Rockets have signed former Atlanta Hawks point guard Aaron Holladay to a one-year contract. Although this contract is the minimum wage of the NBA, it can improve the Rockets' guard roster.
It is understood that the 26-year-old Holladay is very capable of defending with the ball, holding the ball steadily and making three-point shots. Over the past two seasons, the 6-foot-0 Holladay has averaged 5.1 points (39.3 percent three-point shooting) and 1.9 assists in 14.8 minutes per game.
Due to his modest size, Holladay was limited to his role as a point guard. His addition could give Jaylen Green and Kevin Porter Jr. more offensive opportunities, and of course, Porter Jr. could also switch to the role of small forward in 2023-24. Well, new head coach Ime Udoka will develop more offensive opportunities based on their characteristics.
The Rockets now have three point guards, in addition to Holladay, rookie Amen Thompson and new veteran Fred VanVleet. The Rockets have also signed other free agents in the 2023 free agent market, including Dillon Brooks, Jock Randall and Jeff Green. It can be seen that the Rockets' goal next season: the playoffs.
