Located on the northeast edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Maqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province, covers an area of 5.62 million mu, and is one of the best-preserved wetlands in the world, known as the "kidney of the Yellow River".

As an important water conservation area and ecological function area in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, Maqu County has continued to implement the integrated protection and restoration project of landscape, water, forest, lake, grass and sand in recent years. Through the protection of key marsh wetland fences, the restoration of vegetation in degraded wetlands, and the return of grazing land to wetlands, the amount of wetlands has been continuously increased, and the water conservation capacity and ecological functions have been further improved.
