Sun Yingsha won the women's singles competition of the 2023 World Table Tennis Championships in May, and is a veritable world hegemon. Currently, she has won 6 gold medals at the World Championships, 1 gold medal at the Olympics, and won two consecutive titles in the WTT year-end finals in 2021 and last year. In the past head-to-head record, Shin Yubin was also defeated by Sun Yingsha twice and was at a disadvantage.

However, Shin Yubin won the silver medal in the women's doubles at the World Championships in Durban, and was only one step away from entering the world's top ten in the singles rankings, showing an upward trend, and South Korean fans were expecting the "upset" to happen.
