Born in 1989, Tang Shangjun grew up in a remote mountain village in Shangsi County, Fangchenggang City, Guangxi. The village is more than 20 kilometers from the town, more than 70 kilometers from the county seat, and more than 200 kilometers from Nanning. Tang Shangjun said that he was the eldest in the family, had an older brother and three older sisters, and his mother gave birth to him when he was 40 years old. When he was a few years old, his father told him the story of a fellow villager who was admitted to Tsinghua, which planted a seed in his heart. He is a science student and feels that Tsinghua University is the best choice for domestic science students, and "taking the Tsinghua exam" is a normal dream.
