Xiang Lang (向朗), courtesy name Juda, was a native of Xiangyang Yicheng,Three Kingdoms (present-day yicheng south of Yicheng, Hubei). According to the chronicle of the Three Kingdoms, he lost his father at an early age and was raised by his second brother. When he was young, he was a famous teacher and scholar Sima Decao, and was friendly with the social sages Xu Shu and Pang Tong. Initially belonged to Liu Biao, later returned to Liu Bei, and then the lord took the throne, as an infantry lieutenant, leading the history of the chancellor. From Zhuge Liang's Northern Expedition, he was dismissed from office because of the defeat of Ma Mo's soldiers. After Zhuge Liang's death, he was re-employed as a general of the Guanzuo Commandery and was given the title of Marquis of Mingting. On his deathbed, he admonished his son: "Harmony between heaven and earth is the birth of all things, and harmony among the nine tribes is all smooth, and peace is concerned about survival and death, and caution is taken." ”

According to the Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms, Xiang Lang "dabbled in literature when he was young, but he did not cure the examination of the plains, and was known as an official. Since the long history, Youyou has nothing to do (Note: three should be two) for ten years, but more immersed in the classics, tireless. At the age of eighty, he wrote his own books, published falsehoods, and accumulated the most volumes. Open the door to receive guests, tempt the latter to enter, but talk about ancient meanings, do not do current affairs, in order to see the name. The upper self-governing, the lower and the child crown, are all respected. ”

The general idea of this ancient text is that although Xiang Lang dabbled in literature when he was young, he did not specialize in book-related learning, but thought that officials were good at politics. Since being deposed for nearly twenty years, he has been idle for nearly twenty years, so he has devoted himself to the study of classics again and has worked tirelessly. Although he was over eighty years old, he also personally proofread books, published errors, and accumulated books, which was the most common at the time. He was praised for opening the door to receive guests, accepting enterprising students, lecturing on the ancient principles in the book, and interfering in current affairs. The ruling officials, the lower officials, and the young people all respected him.

In his later years, Xiang Lang had a humanistic spirit, and he bought books and collected books, and personally proofread books for errors. The suffering of school books is mostly narrated by ancient school scholars. An old man in his eighties who is dazzled and mentally stagnant, diligently working hard every day, and the school book is not quitting, which makes people admire. It is precisely because of the hard work paid by a school surveyor like Xiang Lang that the torch of Chinese civilization has been passed on, and many ancient books that have been handed down to this day can be read and read.

What is even more valuable is that Xiang Lang also opened his own collection of books to the outside world, and followed the example of inducing studious people to popularize culture, creating a precedent in history for private bibliophiles to open up to readers and use the collection.

What Xiang Lang did is still difficult for people to do today. From the perspective of inheriting culture, this reflects the great love of the world. It is precisely because of this that his collection, school books, and open book collection deeds have been first recorded in the history of the canon to show praise.
