China Youth Daily Client News (Yi Yanni, China Youth Daily, China Youth Network reporter only Hengwen) In the era of globalization, when the footprints of Chinese people are in many corners of the world, how should we understand the complex experience of people and the world when they meet; in the face of sudden blows, how will living individuals get out of the shadows and regain the courage and confidence in life... On October 16th, qiu Huadong, author of "Havana Waves", together with writer Zhu Yong, literary critic Zhang Li, sinologists Xia Haiming, Kajia and Eastman, attended the "Mountains and Seas: The Encounter between Man and the World - Qiu Huadong's "Havana Waves" New Book Sharing Meeting" to discuss literature and the distance.
As a famous contemporary writer, Qiu Huadong has authored 12 novels such as "The Promise of the Night", "The Breath of the Day", and "The Confession of Noon", 32 novellas such as "Starlight in the Hand" and "Environmental Dramatist" and more than 180 series of short stories.
Havana Waves, published by Beijing October Literature and Art Publishing House, is Qiu Huadong's new collection of novels, consisting of 9 novels, namely "Looking at the Clouds", "Only the Sea Is Not Sad", "Crocodile Hunter", "Shadow of the Eagle", "São Paulo Raining", "Sunset in Provence", "Havana Waves", "HippoThe Masseuse" and "The End of Iceland".
As can be seen from the names of the novels, these novels take place all over the world, and the only thing that is the same is that they are all written in Chinese stories, and the protagonists have large and small deficiencies in their lives.
Regarding "The Waves of Havana", the author once described the reason for writing this series of novels, when he was playing with the globe, he suddenly got up and randomly selected nine places on the globe, showing the Pacific, Australia, Central Asia, Cuba, Brazil, Russia, East Africa, France, Iceland, so he used these locations as the background to write the story of the life of a new generation of Chinese overseas in the context of globalization.
For this new collection of novels that "turn the globe and write", Qiu Huadong shares his creative concept: "On the one hand, it tries to 'tell chinese stories well' in the contemporary literary scene; on the other hand, it tells how living individuals will face sudden blows and how to regain courage in middle-aged experience." ”
Writer and documentary filmmaker Zhu Yong said: "'Havana Waves' reflects the change of spatial consciousness in Qiu Huadong's creative vision. It breaks the spatial structure of the past writing mainly urban and rural areas, and is sensitively aware of the new situation in which the footprints of Chinese have traveled around the world, not only putting the Chinese under the global spatial position to show the trajectory of life, but also expanding the human space to the biological space. ”
"These 9 novels are 9 Chinese stories, 9 stories of China and Asia, Africa, Latin America and even the whole world, writing about the 9 kinds of spiritual dilemmas of modern people. As a writer of iron han tenderness, Qiu Huadong tries to heal the wounded heart to some extent through the way people interact with the world. Zhang Li, a professor, doctoral supervisor and famous critic at the College of Literature of Beijing Normal University, believes that "Havana Waves" is both Chinese, cosmopolitan and naturalistic, and Qiu Huadong's creation expands the reader's understanding and sensitivity to the world - he not only sees the customs and cultural differences between nation-states, but also sees the possibility of crossing differences and achieving some kind of spiritual commonality.
Sinologists Xia Haiming, Katya, and Eastman discussed topics such as foreign experiences, maps, and the Chinese and the world.
In the face of transnational exchanges in literary creation, Qiu Huadong believes: "Literature is the best bridge for communication between different nationalities. It is through literature that our minds complete mutual recognition. When the mountains, the sea, and the earth become the background colors in my work, in the process of meeting man and the world, they will heal ourselves again. ”
