College Profile
The School of Artificial Intelligence is the first physical college directly under the Ministry of Education dedicated to the research and development of high-end innovative achievements, high-level team cultivation and talent training in the field of artificial intelligence. The college has a national characteristic major, a national first-class undergraduate major "Intelligent Science and Technology" and the first batch of national first-class undergraduate majors "Artificial Intelligence". The construction discipline "Computer Science and Technology" of the college was selected into the new round of "Double First-class" construction list, and master's, doctoral students and international students in China were recruited in the national double-first-class construction discipline groups of "Computer Science and Technology" (ESI1‰ discipline) and "Control Science and Engineering".
The college has a strong faculty and more than 80 teaching and research staff, including 32 professors, 24 associate professors and 70 graduate supervisors. It has 1 foreign academician of the European Academy of Sciences and 1 foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 15 national high-level talents (5 national leading talents and 10 national young talents), and 15 provincial and ministerial high-level talents.
The college has established three national platforms: the International Joint Research Center for Intelligent Sensing and Computing, the National "111" Program Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Base for Intelligent Information Processing, and the National 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center for "Information Perception Technology"; 8 provincial and ministerial scientific research and teaching platforms, including the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Perception and Image Understanding of the Ministry of Education and the Shaanxi Brain-like Intelligent Technology Engineering Research Center; At the same time, in close cooperation with major well-known enterprises, 17 joint research centers/innovation laboratories integrating education, research and training have been established, including Xidian University-HP High Performance Computing Joint Laboratory, Xidian University-AMD Joint Laboratory, and Xidian University-Beidou Civil-Military Cooperation Research Center.
Facing the major national strategy and international frontier development, the college has produced a series of innovative and irreplaceable scientific research achievements, and has undertaken nearly 20 major scientific research projects, including 5 basic strengthening projects of the Science and Technology Commission of the Central Military Commission, major projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, key projects, and key research and development projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and has won 2 second prizes of the National Natural Science Award and 8 first prizes of the Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Awards. In terms of talent training, we have always focused on the fundamental task of cultivating virtue and cultivating people, strengthened curriculum construction, actively explored innovative methods and paths for curriculum teaching reform and quality assurance, and won 2 second prizes of the National Teaching Achievement Award, 1 special prize and 3 first prizes of the Shaanxi Provincial Teaching Achievement Award, 1 virtual teaching and research department of the Ministry of Education, 1 national first-class undergraduate course, 5 first-class undergraduate courses in Shaanxi Province, 2 ideological and political demonstration courses and teaching teams in Shaanxi Province.
In the practice of artificial intelligence talent training, the college has always emphasized expanding the international vision of teachers and students, encouraging teachers and students to go abroad for exchange and further study, improve the knowledge structure, and adapt to international competition. In the past five years, more than 100 undergraduate and graduate students have gone abroad for exchange and study, and more than 90% of the teachers of the college have studied abroad or visited famous universities, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Columbia University, University of California, Los Angeles and other famous institutions. The college has carried out regular exchange visits and summer visits with many universities such as the University of Bedfordshire, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and the University of Frankfurt in Germany, providing all-round support and guarantee for teachers and students to "go out" to broaden their horizons and learn advanced knowledge.
After more than ten years of exploration and practice combining science and education, the college has built an all-round education system of "internationalization + XD characteristics" integrated talent training, "international academic frontier + major national demand" scientific research and innovation practice collaborative education, and "high-level platform + high-level talent" service talent training. As an AI student at the forefront of science and technology, graduates of artificial intelligence-related disciplines have always been in short supply, with a one-time employment rate of 97% in the past five years, favored by major military scientific research units, state-owned enterprises, foreign-funded / foreign-funded enterprises, well-known companies and universities, employment units include: major research institutes in the field of electronic information and aerospace, BAT, Huawei, ZTE, JD.com,, many AI startups, as well as Google, Amazon, Intel, Microsoft and other global well-known enterprises. The intelligent science and technology major is a national characteristic major, and was approved as the first batch of first-class undergraduate major construction sites in the country in 2019. Relying on the discipline advantages of computer science and technology and electronic information technology, and using the research foundation and faculty in the field of intelligent perception and image understanding, the major has built a mature teaching team, an innovative experimental area for the cultivation of intelligent science and technology talents and a demonstration center for intelligent sensing and computing teaching. Since its approval in 2005, this major has trained more than 2,000 innovative talents in the field of artificial intelligence, contributing to the development of the artificial intelligence industry.
