Pig farming has always had to be imported from abroad, so why not vigorously develop local breeds

author:Trenches

China has a long history of pig farming, and there are many local traditional pig breeds in the country, but with the development of the times, local pig breeds are at risk of extinction.

In fact, this problem has been around for a long time, before the reform and opening up, the people's life is still relatively difficult, it is rare to eat meat once a year, pigs are local breeds, one is more than a year, and most of them are free-range, nibbling on turf, feeding some rice bran is good. There was also no oil and water in everyone's stomach at that time, and the advantages of local pigs were that they had more children and high fat rate. At that time, fatty meat was much more delicious than lean meat.

After the reform and opening up, China's economy has developed rapidly, people's living standards have been continuously improved, fat meat is no longer favored, and more and more people like lean meat. The disadvantages of local pigs are shown, slow growth, too high feed to meat ratio, low lean meat rate, so low economic value, and the Western breeds introduced by the country at that time, Changbai, Dabai, Duroc, are all lean pig breeds, eat less, grow fast, and the economic value is much higher.

After decades of development, there are fewer and fewer local traditional pig breeds in China, and some are even close to extinction.

Some people are about to say, since foreign pig breeds are so good, why not simply abandon domestic breeds and raise only foreign breeds? Of course, this will not work, once this is done, then, if we want to eat pork in the future, it will be completely controlled by the West, because the imported pig breeds, after a few generations, will decline and need to be reintroduced, once the West bans us from selling, if we can't get it right, there will be no pork to eat in the future.

Therefore, the protection of local pig breeds is urgent, and now some people of insight have begun to invest in the development of the protection of local populations, but the effect is not obvious, the main problem is that there is only continuous input, the output is too small, disproportionate, it is difficult to maintain.

The state has long been aware of this problem and has introduced a series of policies by special research departments to conduct research on new breeds of local breeds in an attempt to break the monopoly of pig breeds in the West.

Personally, I suggest that the state should increase investment in research departments, and let them study new breeds that are more suitable for China, so that Chinese pig breeding no longer needs to go to the West to introduce pig breeds.
