Visit Wing Chun

This year's popular Shenzhen dance drama "Wing Chun" returns to Shenzhen tonight to perform at the Cultural Fair. I have always wanted to talk to Chang Hongji, the dancer who plays Master Ip Man in the play, but he is busy touring the country and has not been in Shenzhen. The friends finally won the opportunity in the past two days, saying that this afternoon the crew was rehearsed at the Shenzhen Grand Theatre, and I could go to the dressing room to chat with Chang Hongji after the rehearsal.

Visit Wing Chun

In the dance drama "Wing Chun", Ip Man actor Chang Hung Kee took a photo of him pretending to practice Wing Chun next to his "statue".

This was the first time I watched a play, where the actors wore costumes and did not wear makeup, and under the direction of the director, they performed scene by scene from beginning to end. When I was not satisfied with some details, the director gave an order, and the actor immediately did it again.

The two female directors of "Wing Chun" Han Zhen and Zhou Liya are very famous, they are known as "twin stars" in the Chinese dance scene, and have co-directed "Only This Green Green", "Never Dying Airwaves", "Mulan", "Once Upon a Time in Shawan" and so on. At this moment, the two directors are sitting in the audience and "commanding the world". I didn't know them, I couldn't tell who was who, but they had someone with a highlighter pointing the stage, and the light point could reach anywhere in the table space. They also took turns giving instructions, and the sound was transmitted to the ears of each actor participating in the rehearsal through the live PA system. Their directors speak directly, concisely, sharply, and without mercy. I sat in the front row, watching the actors perform on stage, listening to the director's orders and comments from time to time in the air, as if I was reading a classical vernacular novel with criticism. The performance on stage is the text, and the director's instructions are criticism. This kind of viewing experience is not available when watching a formal performance. For example, when criticizing a certain curtain call formation, the director said: "Like a dog gnaws!" Start over! ...... One more time! I have put up with you for a long time, and I must correct it today. "We usually think that the curtain call should be a relaxing moment for the actors on stage after the performance, and who knows that this curtain call formation also has requirements for walking on the stage, and it also has to be strictly rehearsed.

The scene that touched me the most was the director's criticism of an actress:

"Why are you out of shape today?"

"Build your heart! Now your action is empty.

"Is it okay to do the action step by step? Why do those actions? You're going to put the 'why' on it! Just now you knew your hand was going up, but why did you raise it? What about feelings? What about levels? What is the use of just raising your hand? ”

"Don't act! To play people! To play 'is' that person. You are her, she is her whenever she looks up and turns around! Are you her now? ”

By the time of the final curtain call of the rehearsal, there were a few minutes when the director was talking to the choreographers and lighting masters, and the actors on the stage finally relaxed. After all, those actors are all young people, and as soon as the rope is loosened, they will immediately dance. At this time, I found a girl with red eyes, and her face looked like she wanted to cry but she couldn't cry, but she kept wiping her tears with her hands. The actor next to her patted her shoulder lightly, leaned in to her ear and whispered something, she immediately had a smile on her face, and quickly glanced in the direction of the director. At this time, the director also discovered this scene on the stage, and the "eyebrow criticism" immediately flew over:

"How? Feeling a little emotional? I think it's just too little scolding! Go down and figure it out for yourself. If you want to act well, you have to do this..."

The girl on the stage nodded her head frequently, and I couldn't see whether her expression was crying or laughing, but I saw tears flashing on her face.

At this time, the friends said that they would go to the background to record the conversation with Chang Hongji. Originally, I was still worried: Chang Hongji is only 24 years old, what should I talk to him about? Now that I know, I want to talk about why the director criticized the actress just now, and talk about the story of their rehearsal. The director's words also touched me a lot. "Build the character's heart", "Don't act, act someone, if that person..." But I still have to ask Chang Hongji what the director's "building the hearts of the characters" meant during the rehearsal of "Wing Chun" means.
