At the training camp in Arashiyama Town, Saitama Prefecture, Japan, Yasuhiro Sato took Chinese athletes to train for half a year. During this period, Sato was deeply impressed by the concentration of the Chinese players. Among all the Chinese athletes, Yasuhiro Sato admires Su Yiming the most. Regarding the first meeting between the two, Yasuhiro Sato recalled:
"The first time I saw him was when he was about 12 years old, and he came to Japan for training. At that time, I had the impression that this kid was very motivated and eager to skate better. I feel that his conditions in all aspects are very good, and compared to the Japanese players I was coaching at that time, his strength is still good. ”
In August 2018, Yasuhiro Sato and Su Yiming officially joined hands to embark on the journey of preparing for the Beijing Winter Olympics. For this extremely talented apprentice, Yasuhiro Sato has a special training method. He said:
"The first is not to do useless work. In addition, Xiaoming belongs to the kind of child who is prone to fear, and his fear will be clearly felt when challenging new movements. During the training, I paid special attention to dispelling his fears, but this is also a plus! Fear also means that he knows how to think, knows how to look carefully, so he can feel danger, which is his strength. When he knows what he should do, he will develop self-confidence. It was in this accumulated training that he succeeded in the (Beijing) Winter Olympics! ”
The story of Yasuhiro Sato and Su Yiming fighting together at the Beijing Winter Olympics touched many people. People wonder how they overcome barriers of nationality and language to build bonds of trust with an age difference of nearly 30 years. In this regard, Yasuhiro Sato said:

"I plan to start a new training program in China for 9- to 12-year-olds, the next generation of players, who intend to do so for four to six years. I look forward to more than one Xiaoming being born from such training. I hope to apply the experience and knowledge I have accumulated to the training of the next generation of athletes in China. ”
In an interview with reporters from the main station, Yasuhiro Sato has repeatedly expressed his willingness to transcend national borders and become a bridge of friendship between Japan and China through sports exchanges. He said:
