Partial concomitant cleft palate is the most common congenital malformation of the fetal head and neck. In addition to cosmetic deformities and developmental effects on the face, children often have difficulty chewing, swallowing, and pronouncing.
"Cleft lip" and "cleft palate" in cleft lip and palate can exist simultaneously or separately, depending on the degree of split of the lip and palate, cleft lip and palate are divided into the following:
1. Hidden cleft lip: Hidden cleft lip is the slightest cleft lip.
2. Incomplete cleft lip: at least a complete nasal sills or the presence of Simonart band at the bottom of the nose.
3. Complete cleft lip: The cleft of a complete cleft lip runs from the upper lip to the floor of the nose and extends to the maxilla below the incisor hole. If the fissure exceeds the incisor hole, a cleft palate forms.
4. Cleft soft palate: The hard palate tissue is complete, and the soft palate can include uvula cleft, the entire soft palate cleft or hidden soft palate.
5. Incomplete cleft palate: manifested as partial hard palate and soft palate cleft after the incisor hole.
6. Complete cleft palate: Complete cleft palate usually merges with cleft lip, manifested as complete dehiscence from the uvula to the hard palate and the alveolar ridge.
Babies with cleft lip and palate can generally begin to carry out gradual surgical repair after 0~3 months after birth, feeding before surgery requires very careful and patient, it is recommended that parents buy special feeding bottles for cleft palate, plastic spoons and other feeding equipment to avoid milk entering the trachea by mistake, causing respiratory infections.
