Armadillo first appeared in the 1985 comic book Captain America #308, in which the armadillo was ordered to attack Captain America, and since then the armadillo has become a long-term villain. Still, in 2005's official Marvel formula manual, The New Avengers Most Wanted File, Captain America didn't think Armadillo was a real bad guy, he just got lost.
