Recently upgraded from Extreme Space Q2 to Extreme Space Z4S, briefly unboxed Extreme Space Z4S above, and shared some experience of document storage and backup.
Recently, there have been a lot of actions in Extreme Space, first supporting the highly requested offline account login function, and then launching the "remote access" function, allowing users to achieve intranet penetration without public IP. It is said that Polar Space will soon update the virtual machine function, and if it is used in combination with Docker, then there will be more ways to play.
So after using the Polar Space Z4S for a while, I'll share some interesting gameplay around Docker.
Let's take a look at the hardware configuration of the Z4S of Extreme Space, the N5105 2.9GHz + 8G memory + 16G flash memory configuration can basically cope with most NAS operations, so adding some expansion functions in Docker can play a more powerful configuration of this hardware.
First, Docker management
The Docker feature is turned off by default and needs to be turned on in the settings. The opening is also one-click operation, and novice users with no programming experience can also easily open and use. The built-in Docker hypervisor of Z4S can be very convenient for management, and containers and images can be managed without installing management tools such as Portainer, and all interfaces are Chinese.
2. PT resource download - qBittorrent
The installation of the image can be imported locally, or directly searched for the image operation installation on the Internet, and the threshold for any operation of the entire graphical interface is very low. Z4S also screened out some popular Docker images separately and put them in common images, and there are also detailed tutorials in the official help documentation of Extreme Space for users to query and install.
As a loyal user of PT Download, I downloaded and installed qBittorrent for the first time.
After the image is downloaded, use the image to create a container. On the page of the local image, you can view the image size, download time, and the original link of Docker Hub.
When creating a container, you must first set up two folders, namely the download directory/downloads, and the configuration folder/config.
The port only needs to be set according to the above figure, and the bottom 8081 can be customized, but the port number should be greater than 3000, which will be discussed in the remote access section later.
EnvironmentHere you need to add the above 3 lines of content, of which the port behind the WEBUI_PORT should fill in the port set last in the step, I set 8081 in the previous step, so fill in 8081 here. After clicking on Apply, the container will be created automatically.
Finally, enter "Extreme Space IP + Port Number" to access the web management page of qBittorrent, qBittorrent's default username is admin, password is adminadmin, familiar pages come to you.
The IP of Polar Space can be viewed from the network settings in Polar Space Settings. Now you can officially use qBittorrent, go to the PT site to download resources now!
File sharing Go File
I use the Go File image to meet my file sharing needs. Go File is all about simplicity and speed, and this platform can also preview pictures and videos directly. First search for justsong/go-file from the repository.
When creating a container, you mainly set a /date folder and map a port to use.
Opening the page is very simple and there is no learning cost. Files can also be uploaded by dragging and dropping. Uploaded files can be shared in the form of URLs and QR codes. In addition, entering text directly in the upload box will automatically generate as a .txt file; the uploaded image also supports Markdown format for saving. Very convenient and practical.
4. Remote access
With so many great Docker features, but only at home, it's a bit of a waste of resources. If you apply for a public IP address for intranet penetration, you can access Docker on the Internet, but the configuration is complicated and the cost is too high.
In order to cope with this demand for external network access, Z4S has recently updated the remote access function, which allows users to access containers created by Docker in the external network environment. Get rid of the display used by the LAN and better play the effect of Docker.
To open the remote access function, you can use the shortcut entry of the added function or add the new function portal.
Adding is also as simple as entering the port number of the Docker container. In this way, even in the environment of the external network, the container of the polar space Docker can be accessed. One of the scenarios I often use is that if I want to watch a movie outside, I can directly place a good seed on the PT site, and use the remote access function of Extreme Space Z4S to open qBittorrent to download. When you get home, you can see it directly. Or on the way home, you can also use Extreme Film and TV to play directly.
V. Summary
Polar Space Q2 has been upgraded to Polar Space Z4S, in addition to expanding the disk slots from 2 to 4, the biggest feeling for me is the support of the Docker function, and with the support of the original system function of Polar Space, I can DIY more advanced functions. The installation and use of Extreme Space Docker is also relatively simple, which is very friendly to novices.
On the other hand, Polar Space adds the function of remote access, which is a very practical function for users who do not have public IP and do not understand intranet penetration. You don't have to do it yourself, you can access your home devices on the Internet.
