The whiskered gull, the world's most widely distributed bird, should be a traveling bird to be precise. Its natural habitats are open plain lakes, reservoirs, estuaries, coasts and nearby swamps, often in groups.
Baini Lake is located east of the entrance of the Xiangjiang River into Dongting Lake, with a water surface area of nearly 4,000 mu, which belongs to the water level diversion lake of Dongting Lake. The lake area belongs to the humid monsoon climate of the transition between the central subtropical and the northern subtropics, with an average annual temperature of 16.5 °C, the lake water depends on the precipitation of the lake and the southern mountain streams.
In early summer, a large number of whiskered gulls forage here, breed and raise offspring, and the entire waters of White Mud Lake have become a paradise for whiskered gulls.
