Top beaches in summer in the UK Part2

Summer is coming, summer vacation is about to begin, how do friends want to spend this summer? The second bullet of the Summer Beach chapter is here!

Totland Bay, Isle of Wight

As temperatures rise, crowds tend to head to places like Ryder, Sandown and Colwell, but locals know Totland Bay is by far the better option.

Just a 10-minute drive from Yarmouth's ferry terminal, this small sandy beach in West White and the pretty pebbles on the beach give a mysterious feel in the sun.

The vegetation on the adjacent headland extends to the water's edge, and the small yachts swing happily off the shoreline. Even better, garbage is cleaned up every day in the summer and the slope of the shoals is very gentle, so the beach is consistently ranked among the cleanest and safest on the island.

It's also a good option to stop at The Hut for some rosé wine or some fish and chips at The Waterfront, a popular local favorite.

Rottingdean, East Sussex

To avoid the crowds in Brighton, cycle down the cliff path to Rottingdean, 4 miles east of the pier. Tucked away under chalk cliffs, this pebbled beach is relatively quiet and a great place to swim.

In the late 30s, the Tudor Court Hotel in the village was Malmont Castle in Sussex. A summer resort for Hollywood stars such as Betty Davis, Katherine Hepburn, Errol Flynn and Gary Grant, who are said to haunt the bars of Rottingdean Club.

In summer, Rottingdean Terraces, an open-air stage overlooking the sea, stage live music and theatre.

For friends who want crispy dough and chips dipped in salt and vinegar, head to Smugglers, which also offers a seafood dinner that can be eaten on the beach.

St Margaret’s Bay, Kent

In summer, the parking lot behind this white cliff fills up quickly, but that doesn't matter: it's possible to park your car in the small village of Santa Margaret on the cliff and walk along the winding forest path to the beach.

Walking through this pine-scented path and sleepy alleys surrounded by coastal mansions, reminiscent of the French Riviera and Costa Brava – can get walkers straight into vacation mode.

Where to eat

The Coastguard is a 300-year-old bar famous for its burgers and steaks.

Walberswick, Suffolk

Walberswick is separated from the more obvious beach resort of Southwold by a river Blyth – the two have been connected by rowboat ferries since the 13th century.

Surian is interconnected but contrasting: Wolberswick, once a thriving fishing and shipbuilding center, is now like Southwold's low-key little sister.

It doesn't have the entertainment or hustle and bustle of the marina. It does have a dune beach that feels wilder, a natural nature reserve where you might spot otters and long-tailed crocodiles, and a harbor perfect for crab fishing. There is also a nice rustic green area, several bars and tea rooms, and a couple of shops.

This includes Black Dog Deli, where you can find local honey, cakes and pies, and the walls of Charlie Mackesy, who lives nearby, scribbling. And don't miss St Andrew's, Walberswick's chapel,

Brancaster, Norfolk

Holkham tends to dominate all the "best Norfolk beaches." But Blancaster, ten miles to the west, is also nice.

Here, you'll find expansive, golden sands backed by sand dunes – where the Normandy landings took place – while the surrounding coast and hinterland turn into swamps of creeks, sandbars and salt marshes, all of which are paradises for birds.

The beach itself is huge but never feels crowded and perfect for collecting shells, flying kites, building sandcastles, horseback riding and dog walking (allowed all year round). The beach itself has only one toilet and kiosk, a golf course built in 1892, and a clubhouse.

Brancaster village and Brancaster Staithe have more facilities. It is worth noting that during high tide, the road to the beach can be flooded. Consider taking the Coasthopper bus or walking to the Norfolk Coast Path.

Brancaster Staithe's Crab Hut sells fresh lobsters, crabs and more, all caught by fishermen's boats; Open daily from March to November.

Morecambe North, Lancashire

Lancashire's seaside towns overlook the vast sky and sandy beaches overlooking the Irish Sea and the vast Sahara Desert. Changing currents mean that tides rarely come, which is perfect for kite-flying and landscape photos.

The front beach is a paradise for birds, and the sand left behind after low tide is a changing pattern that surrounds the wilderness of the southern part of the Lake District. No wonder Turner portrayed Morecambe Bay on his trip to Cumbria.

A statue of Eric Morecambe showcases the country's most popular cartoon, and he poses "Bring Me the Sun" with binoculars dangling from his chest.

Preparing yourself a bowl of soup made with fish, a variety of seafood, bacon and potatoes at Morecambe Bay Chowder Co, served with corn on the cob, couldn't be more authentic!

Runswick Bay, North Yorkshire

Although the beach is very popular with locals, Runswick Bay rejects the common pitfalls of seaside hotspots: burger vans, fish and chip shops, knick-knacks. True, they will be forced to find accommodation in this former fishing village. By the way, this is the "new" village, which was washed away by a landslide in 1682.

Below the small slide, an enticing curve of sand and cobblestones, surrounded by rock spurs that require rock pooling surveys, extends a mile and a half east to the Kettleness Cliffs.

The beach is perfect for ball games, sandcastle building and splashing in the water – paddleboarding and kayaking, too. Most people live near the village, so it's easy to find a quiet place. In summer, ice cream trucks often stop near the slide.

Located above the slide, Tides Cafe features outdoor seating and sells sandwiches, breakfast, ice cream and grilled meats, as well as beach gear.

Cocklawburn and Cheswick, Northumberland

Cocklawburn and Cheswick are located four miles south of the border town of Berwick upon Tweed.

You can reach this interconnected pink beach from the town along the coastal road, or park your car on a country road and cross the dunes. It's a mix of sand and rock – watch out for sea lilies and pink carnelian on the beach.

Food can be purchased from Berwick's Mule on Rouge, which has bagels, cakes and other things – and can then take them to the dunes for a picnic.
