Comrade Li Guang passed away

Nanjing, 7 Jan (Xinhua) -- Comrade Li Guang, former adviser to the Headquarters of the Nanjing Military Region (deputy corps member), died in Nanjing on December 27, 2020 at the age of 106 due to ineffective medical treatment.

Li Guangyu, a native of southern Sichuan Province, joined the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army in 1933, the Communist Youth League of China in 1934, and the Communist Party of China in 1935. During the agrarian revolutionary war, he successively served as squad leader, platoon leader, deputy company commander and other positions, during which he successively participated in the anti-"Six Road Siege", Jialing River, Three Castles and other battles in the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Region, and participated in the Long March of the Red Army. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he successively held the posts of platoon commander, battalion commander, brigade commander, regiment commander, district captain, and deputy brigade commander, and participated in the opening up of the Cha Nan base area and many anti-"sweeping" campaigns. During the Liberation War, he successively served as regimental commander, deputy brigade commander, brigade commander, division commander and other positions, and participated in the battles of Zhangjiakou, Qingfengdian and Pingjin. After the founding of New China, he successively served as division commander, deputy commander of the army artillery, commander of the Lianyungang garrison area, and deputy director and director of the engineering corps of the Nanjing Military Region, participated in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and made contributions to the revolutionization, modernization, and regularization of the troops.

Li Guang was awarded the rank of major general in 1955 and was awarded the Order of August 1, 3rd Class, the Order of Independence and Freedom of the Second Class, the Liberation Medal of the Second Class, and the Order of Merit of the Red Star of the people's Liberation Army of the Chinese, 1st Class.
