During a heart attack, heart muscle cells die due to lack of oxygen and nutrients due to blocked blood supply, eventually leading to heart failure. Currently, there is no reliable way to replace damaged heart muscle tissue. Recently, Dutch scholars published 1 paper in the journal Science. By studying zebrafish, researchers have revealed the key mechanism of cardiomyocyte regeneration. Because zebrafish have the extraordinary ability to regenerate the heart, they can fully restore heart function within 90 days of injury. The study found that this repair process, which has a very similar effect on mouse and human cardiomyocytes, can be used to repair human cardiomyocytes, and is expected to develop new methods for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
